Driver (2 Positions)
Organization: Danish Refugee Council (DRC)
Location: Kampala & Arua, Uganda
Expected Start Date: October 2025
Contract Length: 12 months

About the Role
DRC Uganda is seeking two experienced and reliable Drivers to support our field and operational activities in Kampala and Arua. This role ensures the safe transportation of staff, goods, and documentation in line with DRC’s operational policies and Uganda’s traffic regulations. The Driver may also be called upon to assist during emergency response situations.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Drive DRC vehicles safely and in accordance with traffic laws and internal policies.
Maintain vehicle logbooks and submit monthly mileage reports.
Ensure road license, insurance, and vehicle inspections are up-to-date.
Perform routine checks on oil, water, brakes, fan belts, and other essential components.
Load, secure, and deliver goods or materials with care and accuracy, verifying against documentation.
Keep the vehicle clean and in sound mechanical condition.
Ensure all safety equipment (jack, fire extinguisher, warning triangle, first aid kit, etc.) is present and functional.
Report any incidents, damages, or vehicle defects promptly to the relevant supervisor.
Support field staff and visitors with professional conduct and assistance when needed.
Uphold DRC’s humanitarian mission and professional ethics in all tasks
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Qualifications
Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or equivalent.
Valid driving license (Class B and D1) held for at least 3 years.
Minimum of 5 years of professional driving experience, preferably with an International NGO (INGO).
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel).
Preferred Skills and Experience
Certificate in defensive driving is an advantage.
Training or certification in automotive mechanics is desirable.
Experience using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is a plus.
Knowledge of INGO operations, project areas, and field logistics is beneficial.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Ability to work under pressure and independently, with minimal supervision.
Professional, trustworthy, and adaptable in multicultural settings.
