Job Summary:
The Plant Operator II (Bus Operator) is a highly skilled and responsible professional critical to the efficient and safe operation of Kiira Motors Corporation’s E-Buses. This role involves operating and maneuvering electric and ICE buses with precision within the production facility, designated test areas, and on E-Bus Xpress operational routes. The Plant Operator II ensures rigorous quality control, strict safety compliance, and adherence to performance standards, directly contributing to Uganda’s transition to sustainable mobility by supporting the efficient production, testing, and operational deployment of cutting-edge electric and ICE buses. This role demands acute situational awareness, unwavering discipline, and a deep commitment to safety and operational excellence.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Functional Responsibilities: Safe & Efficient Bus Operations
The Plant Operator II ensures efficient and safe operation of electric and ICE buses, supporting testing, quality control, and process continuity across various operational contexts.
Bus Maneuvering & Control
Operate and maneuver Buses (Kayoola EVS, Kayoola Coach) within the production facility, designated test lanes, and assigned routes with high precision and control.
Support testing, calibration, and quality assurance tasks by accurately positioning vehicles as required by engineering and production teams.
Adhere strictly to designated routes, schedules, and operational protocols for both internal plant movements and public service operations.
Vehicle Diagnostics & Pre/Post-Operation Checks
Conduct comprehensive pre-operation checks (e.g., fuel or battery levels, braking systems, steering, lighting, dashboard indicators, tire pressure, fluid levels for hybrid models) to ensure vehicle readiness and safety.
Perform post-operation inspections, identifying and reporting any new anomalies or maintenance needs.
Production Line & Test Support
Collaborate effectively with assembly, paint, trim, and quality inspection teams to reposition vehicles and facilitate efficient workflow during various stages of production (body assembly, paint, interior finishing, final quality checks).
Execute controlled test drives to verify mechanical and electrical functionality, acceleration, braking, and overall vehicle performance, in collaboration with quality assurance and diagnostics teams.
Reporting & Documentation
Maintain accurate and complete logs of daily operations, including mileage, charging sessions, safety observations, and any anomalies in vehicle behavior or performance.
Document pre- and post-operation checklists, incident reports, and any observed defects for corrective action by relevant departments.
Utilize digital forms and systems for efficient data capture and submission.
Social Responsibilities: Collaboration & Public Representation
The role fosters collaboration across production units and contributes significantly to the public perception of operational safety and quality in Uganda’s e-mobility sector.
Cross-Team Collaboration
Work closely and cooperatively with Assembly, Quality Control, Engineering, and Product Support teams to ensure seamless vehicle readiness, efficient process flow, and effective issue resolution.
Provide constructive feedback from operational experience to engineering and production teams for continuous product improvement.
Peer Support & Knowledge Sharing
Share best practices and operational insights with fellow bus operators and actively support new operators in learning KMC’s protocols and vehicle handling techniques.
Contribute to a culture of shared learning and continuous improvement within the operator team.

Demonstrate exemplary professional conduct and customer service when operating buses, especially during public transport services, engaging with internal stakeholders, visiting delegations, or during public demonstrations.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum of Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or equivalent.
Mandatory: Valid Driving License with Class/Group DE endorsement.
Mandatory: E-Bus Operator Skilling Program Certification
Mandatory: Training in Defensive Driving
Experience
Minimum of Four (4) Years of specific, Demonstrable Experience in operating buses or heavy-duty commercial vehicles.
Experience in an industrial, transit, or controlled facility environment (e.g., manufacturing plant, public transport system) is highly preferred.
Prior experience operating electric vehicles or buses is a significant advantage.
Professional Certifications
Vehicle Testing Procedures.
Occupational Health and Safety (OHS).
First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS).
Skills And Competences
Expert Vehicle Operation: Proven proficiency and a clean driving record in handling large vehicles, particularly buses, with high precision and safety.
Electric Vehicle Familiarity: Basic to intermediate understanding of electric vehicle systems, including battery management, motor drive systems, charging protocols, and dashboard diagnostics.
Safety Protocols Adherence: In-depth knowledge of industrial safety standards and strict ability to comply with plant-specific operating procedures, especially concerning high-voltage electric vehicles.
Inspection & Reporting: Strong ability to conduct thorough pre- and post-operation vehicle checks and accurately document findings.
Operational & Process Knowledge: Basic troubleshooting skills to identify and communicate operational anomalies promptly. Keen attention to vehicle cleanliness, handling standards, and delivery specifications.
Reliability & Initiative: Consistently punctual, highly dependable, accountable, and responsive to task assignments. Proactive in identifying potential operational hazards or bottlenecks.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Effective communication skills for engaging with supervisors, engineers, and colleagues. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and efficiently.
Situational Awareness: Maintains acute awareness of bus operation activities, surrounding environment, and adjusts behavior to ensure maximum safety and efficiency.
Digital Literacy: Comfortable using digital forms for checklist submissions, reports, or scheduling systems, and adaptable to learning new digital tools related to EV diagnostics.
