Number of Recruits: 11,500

Recruitment Coverage: All 135 districts and 11 cities across Uganda
Overview
The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) invites qualified, disciplined, and patriotic Ugandan citizens to apply for the 2025 General Recruitment exercise. The recruitment seeks to fill 11,500 positions in both regular forces and professional categories. The process will be conducted in two phases: online applications followed by in-person physical and medical assessments.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Phase 1: Online Application
Application Portal: recruitment.updf.go.ug
All interested candidates must apply online and upload the following:
Recent passport photograph
Academic documents
National ID (NIN)
Deadline: Friday, 11th July 2025
Shortlisted candidates will be published on the official UPDF website and respective District/City headquarters.
Phase 2: Physical Recruitment
Dates and venues for physical recruitment will be communicated. Shortlisted candidates will report to designated recruitment centres with:
A handwritten application letter with official recommendations from LC I, LC II, LC III, and GISO or DISO.
National Identity Card
Original and photocopies of academic documents
Three (3) recent coloured passport-size photographs
Recruitment quotas are based on the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) June 2024 population data per district and city.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Target Categories & Requirements
1. General Recruitment – Regular Forces
Academic: Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE)
Age: 18 – 22 years
2. Grade V Teachers
Academic: Diploma in Primary or Secondary Education from a recognized institution
Age: 20 – 25 years
3. Air Force Professionals
Required Academic Backgrounds:
Pilots / Instructors: PPL, CPL with instrument and instructor ratings + science combination at A-Level (2 principal passes)
Aircraft Maintenance Engineers: Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance (Engine/Airframe or Avionics)
Air Traffic Controllers: Any rating + BSc in Mathematics/Physics
Meteorologists: BSc/Diploma in Meteorology + background in Physics, Math, Geography, or Chemistry
ICT & Engineering Graduates: BSc in IT, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering
S.6 Leavers (Science Track): 2 principal passes in Physics/Math (12+ points), aged 18 – 23
Eligibility Criteria (All Applicants Must Meet):
Nationality: Ugandan citizen with a valid National ID
Age:
18 – 22 years for regular forces
Up to 30 years for professionals
Character: Law-abiding, with no criminal record and resident of the applying district
Fitness: Physically and medically fit
Recommendations: Endorsement from local leaders (LC I, II, III, GISO/DISO, and RDC)

Recruitment Centres
General recruitment will occur in local districts and cities.Centralized recruitment for professionals (Air Force, Grade V Teachers, S.6 leavers) will take place at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala.
