About the Organisation
The Uganda Police Force is the national police organization of Uganda, headed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP). The current IGP is Abbas Byakagaba, who took over from former IGP Geoffrey Tumusiime on 18 May 2024. Recruitment to the force occurs annually.
History
The Uganda Police Force was established in 1906 by the British administration and was initially called the Uganda Armed Constabulary, primarily tasked with quelling riots and unrest. On 25 May 1906, Captain (later Brigadier General) William F.S. Edwards arrived in Uganda and became the first Inspector General of the Uganda Protectorate Police. He was known as a stern disciplinarian and an excellent administrator. Edwards served as IGP until 1908 and continued in administrative roles until his retirement in 1922.

The Uganda Police Force (UPF) is recruiting 100,000 Election Special Police Constables to support the maintenance of law, order, and security during the 2025 general elections. The Election Special Police Constable will play a critical role in ensuring peaceful, fair, and transparent electoral processes across Uganda.
This is a three-month national service contract offering Ugandan citizens the opportunity to contribute to their country’s democratic process while earning a competitive monthly wage.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Maintain peace, law, and order during election activities.
Safeguard polling materials, ballot boxes, and election officials.
Support the Uganda Police Force in crowd control, voter protection, and monitoring of polling stations.
Report any incidents of violence, malpractice, or disruption during the electoral process.
Enforce lawful instructions issued by the Uganda Police Force and other authorities.
Participate in community sensitization and awareness campaigns on peaceful elections.
Ensure the security of persons and property in assigned areas.
Attend and successfully complete the mandatory one-month Basic Security Training Course.
Perform other lawful duties as may be assigned by the supervising Police Officer.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
To be considered for the Election Special Police Constable recruitment 2025, applicants must meet the following criteria:
Must be a Ugandan citizen with a valid National Identity Card.
Must possess at least a Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) result slip.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Must demonstrate good conduct and have no criminal record.
Proven volunteerism with the Uganda Police Force (UPF) will be an added advantage.
Must be physically fit and capable of working under challenging conditions.
Must have good communication skills.
Must be nationalistic and patriotic, with a passion for community service.
Must be a registered voter in their area of recruitment.
Must be willing to undergo a one-month Basic Security Training Course.
Must not be a serving officer in any of the armed forces.
Women are highly encouraged to apply.

Recommendation letters from LCI, LCIII, and GISO (from the respective district of recruitment)
