Uganda National Examinations Board
Government Agency
Kampala, Uganda
The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) is a statutory body mandated to conduct and manage national assessments in Uganda, with the mission of ensuring reliable, equitable, and valid evaluation of learners' competencies for educational advancement and certification. Renowned for its integrity and credibility in overseeing Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE), and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE), UNEB plays a critical role in maintaining the standard and fairness of Uganda’s education system.
The organization fosters a culture of professionalism, innovation, and public service, offering meaningful career paths in assessment development, data analysis, administration, and ICT, with structured work arrangements and continuous capacity-building opportunities. Established in 1983 by an Act of Parliament, UNEB has evolved into a modern, tech-driven agency that integrates digital tools in registration, examination processing, and result dissemination to enhance efficiency and transparency.
With nationwide reach across all districts, it operates a decentralized model that enables timely delivery and localized support. Its core values—integrity, fairness, excellence, accountability, and service—guide both internal operations and stakeholder engagement. UNEB's corporate social responsibility initiatives include promoting inclusive education, supporting special needs learners in assessments, and collaborating with schools to improve learning outcomes.
