The Intergovernmental Authority On Development (IGAD)
Political Development Company
Kampala, Uganda
The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) is a regional organization established in 1996 to promote regional cooperation, integration, peace, and sustainable development among its eight member states in the Horn of Africa—Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda. With a mission to foster peace, stability, and prosperity through multilateral collaboration, IGAD has earned a strong reputation for its role in mediating peace processes, addressing food insecurity, and leading climate resilience and migration initiatives in one of the world’s most complex regions.
The organization offers a dynamic and multicultural work environment that values professional growth, cross-border collaboration, and diversity, with job opportunities ranging from diplomatic engagements to technical roles in sectors like health, agriculture, and conflict resolution. Evolving from its origins as a drought and development-focused initiative (IGADD), IGAD has expanded its mandate and operations to become a key player in regional governance and policy formulation, leveraging data-driven planning, stakeholder engagement, and integrated development strategies.
It operates across a wide geographic reach, impacting millions through its programs and partnerships with global institutions, and it remains grounded in core values of unity, service, accountability, integrity, and inclusiveness. IGAD also demonstrates a strong sense of social responsibility by supporting vulnerable populations, advancing gender equity, and promoting environmental sustainability.
