Established in August 2005, the Kakira Outgrowers Rural Development Fund (KORD) is a non-profit organization formed as a joint venture between Kakira Sugar Limited (KSL) and the Busoga Sugarcane Growers Association (BSGA). KORD's mission is to enhance the quality of life for communities within a 50-kilometer radius of Kakira Sugar Limited by investing in infrastructure and social services.
The initiative has garnered recognition, notably winning awards for being the best African NGO-business development partnership. KORD's work culture emphasizes community development and accountability, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals. It offers job opportunities in various sectors, including education, healthcare, and infrastructure development, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
Since its inception, KORD has invested over UGX 8 billion in sectors such as education, health, water and sanitation, and economic strengthening. The fund operates primarily in the Busoga region, impacting communities in districts like Jinja, Mayuge, Luuka, Iganga, and Kamuli. KORD's core values focus on improving livelihoods through sustainable development, community involvement, and mutual respect.
