WASH Officer – Technical Job at The Water Trust

Job Description
The Water Trust is seeking a WASH Officer – Technical to lead the design, supervision, and quality assurance of rural water and sanitation infrastructure. The role involves overseeing construction and rehabilitation works, conducting preventative maintenance, monitoring water point functionality, and supporting water quality testing and shock chlorination activities.
This position is ideal for an early- to mid-career engineering professional with strong technical skills, hands-on WASH experience, and a passion for improving rural water and sanitation services. Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
- Support the WASH Manager – Technical in developing and implementing technical standards and best practices for WASH infrastructure.
- Supervise construction and rehabilitation of boreholes, solar-powered piped water systems, and sanitation facilities.
- Prepare technical designs, specifications, and Bills of Quantities (BoQs) for WASH projects.
- Plan, implement, monitor, evaluate, and report on technical program activities in line with budgets, timelines, and quality standards.
- Coordinate and supervise external contractors to ensure compliance with technical requirements.
- Strengthen community management structures such as Water and Sanitation Committees, Self-Help Groups, and Hand Pump Mechanics to support sustainability.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with district and local authorities, community leaders, and beneficiaries.
- Conduct routine functionality monitoring, preventative maintenance, water quality testing, and shock chlorination.
- Prepare and submit timely construction supervision reports, including photographs and GPS coordinates.
- Contribute to monthly technical and donor reports and update organizational databases on water point functionality and WASH indicators.
