M-KOPA Uganda
Job Description
Technical Assistants
M-KOPA Uganda
What Makes This Role Different
Your current technical role: Process devices, hit targets, go home.
This role: Every device you process connects to someone’s first smartphone, first credit line, first chance at financial inclusion.
Most warehouse and refurbishing roles are transactional—fix it, grade it, move on. This one connects your technical precision to measurable impact. When you maintain 99% quality standards, that translates directly to the 86% customer satisfaction we maintain across 7 million people. When you improve processes using Kaizen principles, you’re helping us scale operations to serve millions more.
You’ll work with real-time data that matters. You’ll see how your quality grading affects customer experience. You’ll contribute to process improvements that ripple across our entire logistics network. And you’ll do it all knowing that your attention to detail directly enables financial inclusion across Africa.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
What You’ll Actually Do
Your days will center around three core areas, all equally important:
Device refurbishing and restoration.
You’ll use computer software to reinstall software, configure settings, and restore phones to factory standards. This isn’t just wiping devices—it’s ensuring every refurbished phone performs like new for customers who are counting on it for their livelihoods.
Quality inspection and grading.
You’ll assess functionality, appearance, and battery life before categorizing devices as Grade A, B, or C. Your eye for detail determines whether a device goes back to a customer or needs additional work. You’ll conduct thorough visual inspections, catching scratches and defects that could affect user experience, and you’ll verify that every device meets our standards before release.
Data tracking and warehouse management.
You’ll maintain detailed records using Excel and similar tools, assist with inventory management during stock-taking, and keep accurate records of returned and refurbished devices. You’ll help organize stock for efficient retrieval and contribute to the systems that help us track thousands of devices moving through our network.
Beyond these core responsibilities, you’ll maintain safety protocols that keep our warehouse running efficiently, thoroughly clean devices (screen polishing, disinfecting), provide basic technical support, troubleshoot minor software issues, and continuously improve processes. You’ll also ensure all tools and equipment are properly used and maintained.
This is an onsite role in Namanve Kazinga, Uganda, reporting to the Product Repairs Team Lead.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
What You Bring To This
Demonstrable technical capability.
Whether through formal education in a technical field, hands-on experience with phone refurbishing, warehouse operations, or technical support, you’ve proven you can handle the technical work. You understand common phone models and operating systems (iOS, Android), and you’re comfortable using software tools for tracking and management.
Exceptional attention to detail. You naturally spot defects others miss. You grade devices accurately. You maintain quality standards even when processing high volumes. This isn’t just about being careful—it’s about having the discipline to maintain precision under pressure.
Efficiency and problem-solving mindset. You can handle high volumes while meeting productivity targets. You troubleshoot technical issues independently. You see process improvements before they become problems. You apply Kaizen principles naturally because you care about doing things better, not just faster.
The reality check
This role is demanding. You’ll work in a fast-paced warehouse environment where efficiency, quality, and safety are non-negotiable. Standard warehouse hours apply, with flexibility required based on demand. The volume is high, the standards are strict, and the pace is intense.
And if you’re reading this thinking “I’m ready for work that demands precision AND delivers impact”—that’s probably the signal you should explore this.
Ready to refurbish devices that refurbish lives?
If you’re looking for hands-on technical work that connects to something bigger than the next device in the queue, let’s talk. Your attention to detail could directly enable financial inclusion for millions.
