Grindrod Logistics Africa Uganda seeks to recruit skilled, experienced, and motivated technical team to work in Kampala and Buliisa to maintain their contracted equipment throughout the region.

  • Supervision: Supervise and coordinate the activities of maintenance technicians, mechanics, electricians, and other maintenance staff. Assign tasks, provide guidance and training, and ensure that work is completed according to established standards and procedures.

  • Maintenance Planning: Develop and implement maintenance schedules, preventive maintenance programs, and repair plans to ensure the efficient operation of equipment, machinery, and facilities. Coordinate maintenance activities with production schedules to minimize downtime.

  • Equipment Inspection: Conduct regular inspections of machinery, equipment, and facilities to identify maintenance needs, detect malfunctions or defects, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.

  • Troubleshooting and Repair: Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, diagnose technical problems, and perform repairs or arrange for repairs by qualified technicians. Ensure that repairs are completed in a timely manner to minimize production disruptions.

  • Inventory Management: Manage spare parts inventory, supplies, and equipment stock levels. Ensure that necessary spare parts and materials are available when needed for maintenance and repair activities.

  • Vendor Management: Coordinate with external vendors, contractors, and service providers for specialized maintenance services, repairs, and equipment upgrades. Obtain quotes, negotiate contracts, and oversee contractor performance.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment histories, work orders, and maintenance logs. Prepare reports, documentation, and maintenance schedules as needed for management and regulatory compliance.

  • Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental regulations, and company policies. Conduct safety inspections, implement safety procedures, and provide safety training to maintenance staff to prevent accidents and injuries.

  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost savings, and efficiency gains in maintenance operations. Implement best practices, technology upgrades, and innovative solutions to optimize maintenance performance and reliability.

  • Emergency Response: Respond to emergency maintenance situations, such as equipment breakdowns, power outages, or facility emergencies, to restore operations promptly and minimize downtime.

  • Education: A bachelor's degree or diploma in engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field is typically required. Relevant certifications or vocational training in maintenance management may also be beneficial.

  • Experience: Several years of experience in technical maintenance and repair work, preferably in a supervisory or managerial role. Experience in facilities management, equipment maintenance, or industrial maintenance is often essential.

  • Technical Skills: Strong technical knowledge and proficiency in mechanical systems, electrical systems, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems, plumbing, and other relevant technical areas. Familiarity with maintenance procedures, troubleshooting techniques, and diagnostic tools is important.

  • Leadership Abilities: Demonstrated leadership abilities, including the ability to lead and motivate a team, delegate tasks effectively, and foster a collaborative and supportive work environment. Experience in supervising and training maintenance staff is valuable.

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, analyze root causes, and implement effective solutions to prevent downtime and minimize disruptions to operations.

  • Communication Skills: Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely to diverse audiences. Strong interpersonal skills are also important for interacting with team members, vendors, and other stakeholders.

  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Safety Awareness: Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and best practices, with a strong commitment to ensuring a safe work environment for maintenance staff and other employees.

  • Computer Proficiency: Proficiency in using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), maintenance software, and other relevant technology tools for scheduling, tracking, and managing maintenance activities.

  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively under pressure, especially during emergencies or unexpected equipment failures.
