Job Description
The Tech Lead will be responsible for overseeing the successful rollout of a new technology platform in Kenya, working closely with both local teams and a Ghana-based engineering unit. The role entails managing frontend development, API integration, infrastructure alignment, QA processes, and local technical risk management. The ideal candidate will have a solid engineering background, leadership experience, and familiarity with fintech systems and digital payment infrastructure. This position offers a unique opportunity to lead technical operations in a fast-paced, high-impact environment focused on financial inclusion.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Act as the key technical liaison between the Ghana-based engineering team and Kenyan market team.
Lead frontend development for the Kenyan deployment, ensuring a seamless user experience across web and mobile platforms.
Manage the local project deployment, including timelines, quality assurance, and budget adherence.
Integrate backend APIs into frontend workflows and oversee documentation and technical handovers.
Align local product deployment with Ghana's product and infrastructure teams, including 3rd-party provider integration.
Coordinate with local partners, payment service providers, and developers involved in the deployment process.
Manage QA, user acceptance testing (UAT), bug tracking, and ensure a smooth go-live experience.
Own local technical risks and escalate issues appropriately to regional or global leads.
Support user testing and gather feedback from field agents or end-users to improve UX.
Provide leadership potential with future possibilities to build and lead a local development team.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Technical Requirements
Proficiency in frontend development (Vue.js, React, or Angular).
Working knowledge of Laravel/PHP-based backend systems.
Skilled in RESTful API design and integration.
Familiarity with infrastructure integration for payments and mobile money ecosystems.
Experience with CI/CD, Git workflows, and cloud deployments (AWS or DigitalOcean).
Leadership & Product Experience
3–5+ years of software engineering experience, preferably in fintech or platform environments.
Experience leading technical deployments across multiple markets or countries.
Strong grasp of Agile methodologies and tools such as Jira or Asana.
Understanding of user-centered design for African consumer/agent environments.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to bridge technical and non-technical teams.
Problem-solving mindset and ability to adapt across emerging markets.
Preferred/Bonus Skills
Experience with digital wallets, banking APIs, or fintech integrations.
Familiarity with financial infrastructure in East or West Africa.
Understanding of data privacy regulations in Kenya and Ghana.
Ability to review and create technical documentation.
