Job Description
The GIS Data Analyst will develop systems and frameworks that link geospatial insights with operational data to support Zipline’s strategic growth in Africa. This includes designing spatial models, managing satellite and remote sensing data, mapping territories, and supporting health-related M&E studies. The position is cross-functional, involving collaboration with engineering, sales, policy, and data teams.
Responsibilities include:
Creating analytics frameworks that integrate geospatial and business data.
Conducting spatial analysis for route optimization and delivery center planning.
Validating and refining flight routing using local and remote data sources.
Supporting M&E studies through spatial and demographic data integration.
Developing models for disease outbreak tracking and optimal health service delivery.
Creating data visualizations and reports to communicate insights internally and externally.
Collaborating with stakeholders across technical and non-technical departments.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Design geospatial data pipelines to support operational and business outcomes.
Analyze road networks, health catchments, and elevation for accessibility studies.
Conduct remote sensing analysis using Google Earth Engine, Sentinel, or Landsat.
Support geospatial components of survey design and evaluation strategies.
Model disease dissemination and evaluate risk exposure areas.
Collaborate with GIS engineers to improve spatial data infrastructure.
Present insights to both technical and policy-focused audiences.
Maintain documentation and ensure reproducibility of spatial analysis work.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Required:
Minimum 5 years' hands-on experience in GIS and spatial analysis.
Strong experience with GIS tools such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
Proficiency in SQL and managing large datasets.
Skilled in visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Matplotlib, or Mode.
Familiarity with logistics networks or public health infrastructure in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Self-driven, adaptable, and creative.
Experience using generative AI tools for data analysis is highly desirable.
Preferred:
Experience in spatial M&E systems or household survey methodologies.
Prior work in logistics optimization or health systems design.
Familiarity with cloud-based platforms such as AWS, GEE, or Databricks.
