Job Description
The Team Leader will be responsible for supervising all stages of sugarcane seedling production, from substrate preparation, germination, planting, and greenhouse management to final dispatch for field transplanting. This includes managing staff, monitoring growing conditions, and ensuring adherence to agronomic standards and safety procedures. The role is subdivided into three main operational focuses: Germination, Growing, and Dispatch & Transplanting. The successful candidate will ensure the nursery’s production meets quality standards and supports the company’s broader cultivation goals.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Clean trays and crates using water pressure machines
Prepare and sieve planting substrates (bagasse, filter mud, rice husks)
Mix substrates in correct ratios and store them appropriately
Cut sugarcane buds using machines and treat them with fungicides and hormones
Monitor bud sprouting and manage planting into trays
Maintain greenhouse conditions including temperature, moisture, and disease control
Manage hardening areas including irrigation, nutrition, and pest control
Dispatch ready seedlings to the field and supervise transplanting logistics
Ensure pre-transplanting land preparation and planting quality control
Oversee hygiene, pest control, and maintenance in the nursery
Perform any additional duties that support the health and quality of the nursery operations

Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Ordinary Secondary Education (desirable)
Minimum of 1 year of experience in sugarcane or seed cane propagation
Knowledge of sugarcane cultivation, propagation, pests, and disease management
Practical experience in nursery operations and greenhouse management
Ability to supervise and work with teams in a fast-paced agricultural environment
