Job Description

The Laundry Team Leader is responsible for overseeing all laundry operations, including sorting, washing, drying, pressing, folding, and delivery of linen and guest garments. The role includes operating laundry machinery, ensuring quality control, managing inventories, preparing reports, and supervising a team. The Team Leader ensures that laundry procedures comply with the brand’s SOPs and safety standards and also contributes to staff training, coordination with other departments, and guest service. Leadership responsibilities include monitoring production, resolving staff issues, ensuring proper circulation of linen and uniforms, and maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient work environment.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Operational

  • Receive, mark, and sort laundry items based on fabric, dirt content, and cleaning method

  • Pre-soak, scrub, sterilize, and spot-clean stained articles

  • Operate washers, dryers, extractors, and finishers according to capacity and safety guidelines

  • Handle delicate items by hand washing or using mild detergents

  • Mix and use chemicals appropriately for cleaning and treatment

  • Load/unload machines and operate steam pressers and hand irons

  • Assemble, bag, and deliver finished laundry items

  • Maintain cleanliness of laundry area and equipment

  • Clean machine filters and lubricate laundry machinery

Guest Service

  • Address guest complaints promptly

  • Handle special guest requests

  • Ensure adherence to SOPs and brand standards

  • Motivate staff and resolve operational issues

Administration

  • Generate invoices for laundry services

  • Prepare production and inventory reports

  • Schedule and communicate team work shifts

  • Maintain SDS (Safety Data Sheets) compliance

  • Ensure availability of linen, chemicals, and equipment

  • Complete required training documentation and forms

  • Report safety issues to management

Employee Handling

  • Promote strong communication within team and across departments

  • Train and mentor new staff and apprentices

  • Encourage teamwork and knowledge sharing

  • Promote safety, professionalism, and respectful workplace culture

  • Handle conflicts constructively

  • Provide and receive feedback to support team improvement

  • Support team during high-demand periods

  • Participate in Colleague Experience Survey (CES) actions

General

  • Comply with all hotel policies on hygiene, safety, and fire

  • Attend required meetings and training

  • Uphold personal grooming and professionalism

  • Represent the hotel and brand positively

  • Adapt to operational changes as directed by management

  • Perform any other related duties assigned

Leadership Duties

  • Ensure new staff and interns are trained properly

  • Maintain adequate linen circulation and uniform availability

  • Inspect laundry processes and ensure production accuracy

  • Provide technical support to other departments when needed

  • Directly engage with guests when required

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • Certificate in Housekeeping and Laundry Techniques from a recognized institution

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a reputable hospitality organization in a similar supervisory role

  • Strong knowledge of laundry equipment, procedures, and chemicals

  • Excellent leadership and team management skills

  • Good communication and problem-solving skills

  • High attention to cleanliness, order, and detail

  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure
