Job Description
Job Title: Supervisor – Mill
Department/Programme: Factory
Section/Project: Mechanical
Reports To: Superintendent – Shift Mechanical
Supervises: None
Overall Purpose of the Job
The Supervisor – Mill supports the Shift Engineer in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the mechanical plant throughout the production shift. The role involves monitoring, coordinating, and supervising mill operations to maintain equipment functionality and production continuity.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Oversee the mechanical and electrical operations of the mill throughout the assigned shift.
Assign and guide staff on job tasks, monitor performance, and provide technical support as needed.
Continuously observe plant operations to identify early signs of equipment failure and implement preventative actions.
Supervise plant overhauls during factory shutdowns and off-crop periods.
Coordinate and supervise breakdown repair activities to minimize machine downtime.
Requisition and manage the use of lubricants and other materials, ensuring efficient utilization.
Maintain discipline among subordinates and address both personal and work-related concerns.
Check staff attendance and punctuality, ensuring duties are performed effectively.
Motivate employees and conduct on-the-job training to support skills development.
Prepare detailed shift handover reports to ensure smooth transitions between shifts.
Maintain cleanliness and good housekeeping in the work environment.
Comply with and enforce company safety, health, and environmental policies.
Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Mill Shift Superintendent or Management.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering & Manufacturing Engineering, or an equivalent qualification.
A Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution is also acceptable.
Experience, Skills, and Competencies
For degree holders: A minimum of two years of relevant experience.
For diploma holders: A minimum of five years of relevant experience.
Experience in supervising shift workers is an added advantage.
Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
Good communication and interpersonal abilities.
Proficiency in computer applications is essential for this role.
