Job Description
The SME Relationship Manager will be responsible for managing and sustaining relationships with SME clients, building long-term partnerships, and providing reliable financial support. The role includes annual reviews of credit facilities, addressing customer queries, proactively selling banking products, and maintaining high standards of risk control and customer service. The role also involves identifying business opportunities, managing early warning signals, and supporting branch staff in delivering consistent service.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Sales and Service (70%)
Conduct annual and interim reviews of customers’ borrowing facilities
Provide financial advice to SME business owners
Resolve customer complaints effectively and efficiently
Promote and sell banking products and services tailored to customer needs
Implement marketing initiatives for both new and existing clients
Ensure adherence to risk service standards and operational excellence
Business Management (25%)
Conduct market research and develop a target list for new business acquisition
Use prioritization tools to assess client potential
Prepare and assess credit applications in collaboration with SME Credit team
Monitor portfolio quality and manage at-risk clients using early warning indicators
Comply with all banking procedures and relationship management guidelines
Staff Management (5%)
Support enterprise bankers and branch staff in service delivery
Coordinate leave plans and assist in staff capacity building when required
Risk and Compliance
Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal risk management policies
Identify and manage potential risk incidents relevant to the role
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education:
Business-related degree (Higher Diplomas in Business, Commerce, or Management Studies also accepted)
Preferred Experience:
Strong knowledge of SME and Enterprise Banking practices
Experience in customer relationship management and team leadership
In-depth knowledge of Absa banking products and services, particularly in Business Banking
Ability to recognize customer needs and offer appropriate financial solutions
Skills and Knowledge:
Strong communication and negotiation skills
Customer-centric mindset
Strategic planning and portfolio management skills
Sound understanding of banking policies and procedures
