Job Title: Shift Chemist - COGEN

Supervises: Laboratory Analyst, RO Plant Operator, Sampler
Overall Purpose of the Job
The Shift Chemist supervises staff during shifts who carry out water chemistry operations for the COGEN plant. The goal is to ensure that all operational and analytical process parameters are consistently met to maintain clean, optimal conditions in the boiler, steam turbine, and cooling tower. This prevents scaling, fouling, and corrosion, thereby protecting COGEN equipment and supporting continuous, efficient operations.

How to Apply
Supervise RO plant operations to ensure makeup water consistently meets boiler OEM specifications.
Oversee preparation and dosing of all chemicals in the COGEN plant, ensuring dosing is continuous without interruption.
Manage the water laboratory to guarantee that all required analyses are performed correctly and on schedule, with results accurately recorded.
Interpret laboratory results from water and steam samples and take corrective action when needed.
Calibrate and adjust laboratory equipment to ensure reliable, accurate results while complying with regulatory requirements.
Prepare chemical solutions and mixtures used in lab analyses and procedures.
Conduct tests and investigations related to operational issues such as poor water quality or inconsistent analytical results.
Ensure the correct process chemicals are ordered and stocked in appropriate quantities to avoid interruptions.
Ensure laboratory consumables are ordered and stocked properly to support smooth lab operations.
Maintain proper documentation of all operations in approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and ensure these procedures are followed at all times.
Identify staff not meeting performance standards and provide or arrange training to improve their skills.
Perform any other tasks assigned by management.

Education: Bachelor of Science in Chemistry.
Experience, Skills, and Competences
Four to six years of experience as a chemist, preferably in the sugar industry with high-pressure boiler power plants (67 bar or higher).
Experience operating RO and demineralization water treatment plants of 25tph or higher capacity.
Familiarity with COGEN water laboratory analytical procedures.
Knowledge of plant operations, particularly boilers, steam turbines, and cooling towers.
