Job Description
The Senior Project Officer will oversee day-to-day project activities, ensure compliance with donor and organizational policies, support partners with technical guidance, and manage stakeholder engagement at various levels. The role involves tracking progress, facilitating communications, preparing reports, managing budgets, and documenting lessons learned. The officer will also contribute to broader organizational goals and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact results.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Ensure full compliance with project strategies and documents
Coordinate project activities and organize outreach engagements
Prepare and review narrative and financial reports
Develop case studies and document stories of change
Maintain joint work plans and ensure timely progress updates
Support analysis and identification of lessons learned
Compliance and Partnership Coordination:
Ensure partner compliance with donor and legal standards
Promote participatory, community-driven project implementation
Adapt strategies to remain conflict-sensitive and gender-responsive
Monitoring and Evaluation:
Develop and track work plans, indicators, and monitoring tools
Regularly report on milestones and project achievements
Provide technical M&E support to partners
Identify and escalate implementation challenges and provide solutions
Monitor budgets and collaborate with finance for realignments
Technical Support and Relationship Management:
Train partners and community structures in data collection tools
Strengthen M&E capacity at the community level
Build positive and regular communication with all stakeholders
Ensure effective documentation and knowledge sharing
Organizational Contribution:
Align with International Alert's values and support internal teamwork
Adhere to finance, admin, security, and HR policies
Undertake additional tasks as required
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Peace & Conflict Studies, Project Management, or related field
Minimum 7 years of NGO project management experience
Proven track record in implementing peacebuilding programs in northern Nigeria
Strong understanding of governance, community engagement, and climate-related projects
Exceptional communication, report-writing, and interpersonal skills
Solid experience in M&E, budgeting, and stakeholder coordination
High proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Fluent in English, with sensitivity to cross-cultural communication
Ability to travel frequently to remote and potentially insecure areas
Strong organizational and analytical skills
