Job Title: Senior Land Surveyor

Number of Vacancies: One (1)
Job Purpose:
To lead land surveying operations for Uganda Railways Corporation by ensuring precise measurement, mapping, and documentation of land boundaries, topographical features, and engineering elements. The role demands compliance with national laws and international standards.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Survey Operations:
Conduct comprehensive topographical, cadastral, engineering, and boundary surveys for railway corridor development.
Perform route, cross-sectional, and detailed engineering surveys to support the design of track alignments, stations, bridges, and other infrastructure.
Establish and maintain control networks and benchmarks aligned with the national grid system.
Carry out land acquisition surveys and develop detailed cadastral maps for property acquisition.
Conduct surveys for land the Corporation intends to allocate or lease.
Undertake joint boundary surveys for disputed land parcels.
Support surveys requested by customers.
Supervise and mentor junior surveyors and technicians in both field and office procedures.
Prepare and submit timely reports on all survey assignments.
Data Management:
Generate accurate survey drawings, maps, and reports, and ensure their integration into the GIS system.
Maintain comprehensive and reliable survey databases.
Produce detailed survey documentation including boundary definitions, area computations, and topographical analyses.
Collaborate with engineering teams by providing survey data to assist with design and construction planning.
Ensure that all survey documentation aligns with national standards and international railway specifications.
Ensure the migration of all land titles onto the National Land Information System (NLIS).
Stakeholder Management:
Coordinate with government land departments, local authorities, and regulatory agencies for approvals and certifications.
Work alongside environmental and social impact assessment teams on issues related to land use and community displacement.
Liaise with the URC legal team on matters of land acquisition and dispute resolution.
Engage with local communities and traditional leaders when conducting surveys in culturally sensitive areas.
Ensure adherence to national survey laws, railway safety protocols, and environmental standards.
Project Management:
Develop work plans, timelines, and allocate resources for survey-related tasks within railway project phases.
Monitor survey activities to ensure alignment with project schedules and budgets.
Apply quality control measures and conduct regular checks for survey accuracy.
Provide continuous survey support during construction implementation.
Prepare technical specifications and cost estimates for survey-related equipment and services.
Human Capital Development:
Provide technical training to junior staff and strengthen institutional capacity within the organization.
Develop and implement standard operating procedures and best practices for survey operations at URC.
Mentor junior professionals and support their career progression within the surveying team.
Stay abreast of new surveying methods, technologies, and international railway standards.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor's degree in Land Surveying, Geomatics, Land surveying and Geo -Spatial Science, or Land Surveying and Information Systems from a recognized University or institution.
Registration from Surveyors Registration Board of Uganda is a MUST.
Post graduate diploma in a related field is an added advantage
Minimum of 5 years of experience in land surveying with at least 3 of which should have been in infrastructure projects.
Proficiency in modern surveying equipment (GPS, total stations, UAV/drones)
Advanced skills in GIS applications and CAD software (AutoCAD, Civil 3D)
Strong knowledge of national survey regulations and international railway standards.
Should be below 45 Years of Age.
