Introduction

Trade for Jobs Uganda is a five-year initiative (2025–2030) jointly led by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Trade Centre (ITC), funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).

Using a market systems approach, the project aims to leverage trade as a driver of decent job creation and income generation for women and men living in poverty in Uganda, by focusing on two high-potential sectors:

  • Dairy

  • Tourism

Project Objectives

  • Strengthen regional and global trade in dairy products and tourism services, focusing on micro-enterprises and SMEs

  • Support private sector development for MSMEs, including value addition, diversification, competitiveness, and improving the business environment

  • Engage with Swedish companies to leverage their expertise, products, services, and investment potential

The project adopts a sustainable market systems approach, with an emphasis on analysis, partner engagement, and evidence-based adaptation.

What makes Trade for Jobs Uganda unique is its focus on trade as a lever for decent job creation. Unlike typical development initiatives, this project integrates ILO’s decent work expertise with ITC’s trade and MSME competitiveness strengths to create more secure and inclusive employment opportunities.

To support daily operations and missions, the project will hire a driver to assist with logistics and office affairs.

Administrative and financial guidance will also come from:
