Job Description
Reports To: Head of Human Resources
The Safeguarding Manager will provide strategic leadership in developing, implementing, and monitoring safeguarding policies and systems to ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive working environment at BRAC Uganda Bank. The role is responsible for managing safeguarding risks, leading case management, supporting survivors using a survivor-centered approach, and ensuring full compliance with legal, regulatory, and organizational safeguarding standards.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Safeguarding Policy and Compliance
- Lead the design, review, and implementation of safeguarding policies for staff, partners, volunteers, consultants, service providers, and other stakeholders.
- Conduct regular safeguarding risk and compliance assessments and integrate safeguarding measures into bank operations in collaboration with Regional and BRAC International Head Office Safeguarding units.
- Ensure the Bank meets all safeguarding obligations, standards, and regulatory requirements.
Case Management and Survivor Support
- Serve as the primary focal point for reporting safeguarding violations, concerns, and grievances.
- Lead timely and confidential case management, investigation, and closure of safeguarding cases.
- Act as a key resource for survivors, ensuring safety, dignity, confidentiality, and access to survivor-centered support services.
- Manage and maintain an online safeguarding reporting and case management system.
Stakeholder Engagement and Capacity Building
- Identify, map, and regularly update local survivor support services across all regions and operational areas of the Bank.
- Establish and coordinate a network of Safeguarding Champions at all Bank locations to promote compliance and awareness.
- Design and deliver safeguarding training and awareness programs for staff and key stakeholders.
Budgeting and Reporting
- Lead the annual safeguarding budgeting process and monitor expenditure, implementation, and follow-up actions.
- Prepare periodic safeguarding reports for senior management and relevant oversight bodies.
Staff Safety, Wellness, and Employee Support
- Ensure staff safety through monitoring and implementation of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) standards across all Bank locations.
- Monitor and support staff access to medical insurance and Group Personal Assurance/Group Life Assurance schemes, coordinating with service providers as required.
- Monitor and promote leave utilization to enhance work–life balance across the Bank.
- Design, implement, and monitor physical wellness initiatives, including sports programs, health clubs, and aerobics, in line with approved budgets and policies.
- Design, implement, and oversee mental wellness initiatives, including staff counselling programs, to promote staff well-being, stability, and productivity.
Leadership and Team Management
- Lead, supervise, mentor, and develop officers and interns within the Safeguarding Unit, ensuring high performance and a positive learning environment.
