Position Overview
The Registered Midwife will lead and support the delivery of comprehensive maternal and child health services at the facility and community level. She will manage daily operations in the maternity unit, provide antenatal, delivery, postnatal, and family planning services, and support HIV/AIDS interventions, ensuring quality care and adherence to infection prevention protocols.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Maternal & Child Health Services
Provide integrated maternal and child health services, including antenatal and perinatal care, safe delivery, management of obstetric emergencies, postnatal care, and appropriate referrals.
Promote neonatal care practices such as infection prevention, early and exclusive breastfeeding, immunization, and safe infant feeding.
HIV/AIDS Services
Deliver HIV-related services, including counseling, eMTCT (elimination of mother-to-child transmission), Early Infant Diagnosis (EID), and support for clients on HAART.
Family Planning & Community Engagement
Encourage uptake of modern family planning methods and provide counseling and services.
Conduct health education sessions for clients and families at the facility and participate in outreach activities including community sensitizations, dialogues, and focus group discussions.
Reporting & Coordination
Submit timely and accurate weekly and monthly departmental reports to the Monitoring & Evaluation team.
Represent the MCH department in meetings at both facility and organizational levels.
Additional Duties
Manage common STIs in pregnancy per Ministry of Health guidelines.
Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards in all professional activities.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Diploma in Midwifery from a recognized institution.
Registered with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (proof required at interview).
Minimum of 2 years’ experience, preferably in a refugee or humanitarian setting.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Fluent in English; knowledge of local languages is an added advantage.
Ability to multitask and work under pressure in dynamic environments.
