Role Overview
Airtel Uganda is looking for a skilled RAN Planning & Optimization Engineer to enhance our network performance, ensure optimal radio access network (RAN) coverage and capacity, and continuously improve customer experience across our GSM, UMTS, LTE, and 5G platforms.

How to Apply
Conduct market analysis and gather intelligence to inform superior network planning.
Analyze network statistics and customer data to prepare effective coverage and capacity plans.
Redesign and optimize existing network plans to adapt to changing user requirements.
Perform technical site surveys and prepare detailed radio Bill of Quantities (BoQ).
Validate vendor quotations and prepare budget proposals for new deployments or upgrades.
Verify cell design data and support seamless site integration.
Review and ensure RAN KPIs (voice, SMS, data) exceed Airtel targets; liaise with Managed Services (MS) partners accordingly.
Support high-quality HD voice and mobile data services across the network.
Review and analyze drive test (DT) reports, support network optimization actions, and assist with customer complaint resolution.
Manage traffic forecasts and prepare capacity upgrade plans for optimal resource deployment.
Review Network Capacity Planning (NCP) reports and recommend BSC/RNC expansions.
Participate in project and data management initiatives.

Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, or Electrical Engineering.
Minimum 3 years of experience in RAN planning and optimization.
Hands-on experience with:
Network planning tools (e.g., Planet)
GIS tools, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
Traffic engineering principles
Frequency planning and verification
OSS tools for statistics and performance analysis
In-depth knowledge of Huawei and ZTE RAN infrastructure (BSC, RNC, BTS, NodeB, eNodeB, gNodeB).
Strong understanding of Air Interfaces (Um, Uu, etc.).
Core Competencies
Deep knowledge of GSM, UMTS, LTE, and 5G technologies
High-level analytical skills using Excel and planning software
Ability to deliver high-quality plans and reports independently
Strong communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
Customer-focused, proactive, and results-driven
Adaptability to cross-cultural work environments
A collaborative team player with strong influencing skills
