Job Description
Project Officer (East Africa)
Organisation: Shared Interest Foundation (SIF)
Location: Uganda
Role Overview
The Project Officer will support the planning, management, and delivery of SIF projects in East Africa, currently active in Rwanda and Uganda, with additional projects in development. This role ensures projects are completed within scope, timeline, and budget while monitoring the impact of past initiatives such as the Bees for Business projects. The Officer will liaise with partners, support reporting, and contribute to project evaluation and development.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Manage project implementation ensuring alignment with objectives, deliverables, and budgets.
Support delivery partners with activity and financial reporting per SIF policies.
Provide regular project updates to the Foundation team.
Assist in drafting new project proposals and budgets.
Conduct due diligence on new delivery partners.
Develop and maintain project monitoring tools.
Participate in project launches and regional events.
Identify and manage project risks and ensure compliance with organizational and donor standards.
Support project evaluations, impact assessments, and report preparation.
Help identify new partnership opportunities and represent SIF at external events.
Conduct monitoring visits to project sites.
Collaboration and Communication
Serve as the main contact for regional project partners.
Maintain regular communication with Foundation teams in the UK and Ghana.
Build strong relationships with partners, colleagues, and beneficiaries.
Ensure effective communication channels with all stakeholders.
Reporting and Administration
Manage delivery partners and provide regular activity updates.
Produce project documentation including status reports, needs assessments, and evaluations.
Contribute to SIF’s communications materials and KPI reporting.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Skills & Experience
Essential:
Minimum 3 years’ project management experience.
At least 2 years managing project delivery partners.
Knowledge of agricultural and handcraft producer challenges in East Africa.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organisational, research, and multitasking abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and remote collaboration tools (Teams, Zoom).
Ability to work independently and in a team.
Willingness to travel regularly within East Africa; some international travel may be required.
Desirable:
Understanding of project management principles and donor-funded projects.
Experience with project development, budgeting, evaluation, and impact assessment.
Familiarity with fair trade principles and SIF’s thematic focus areas.
Education & Qualifications
Essential:
‘A’ Level education or equivalent practical experience.
Desirable:
Degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Development Studies, or related field.
Personal Attributes
Strong social motivation aligned with SIF’s mission.
Flexibility to support other team members as needed.
Excellent teamworking and cross-cultural collaboration skills.
Willingness to work flexible hours across time zones.
