About the “Every Child Can Learn” Project

From 2026 to 2028, Backup Uganda will implement the Every Child Can Learn project in Omoro, Kitgum, and Nwoya Districts. The project aims to make a lasting contribution to high-quality, inclusive education for all children in Uganda by developing a sustainable support system for primary school learners.

To achieve this, the project will:

  • Build capacity among teachers, administrators, parents, and caregivers to identify and manage learning difficulties and disabilities among learners at 30 primary schools.

  • Strengthen coordination between education and health officials to improve referral pathways and access to specialized support for learners with learning difficulties and disabilities.

  • Promote inclusion by establishing learner-driven, inclusive learning and social environments within schools.

Position Summary

The Project Coordinator will lead the implementation of the Every Child Can Learn project in Kitgum District and Municipality. This role involves overseeing training, monitoring, and reporting activities, while supervising and mentoring a team of two trainers. The coordinator will collaborate with school administrators, district officials, and other partners to ensure the effective achievement of project goals.

Duties, Roles and Responsibilities

Project Planning & Coordination

  • Lead the planning, implementation, and monitoring of project activities in Kitgum.

  • Coordinate training schedules, workshops, and school visits in collaboration with the Trainers.

  • Ensure all activities align with project timelines, budgets, and objectives.

  • Work closely with the Country Director and other departments to ensure effective resource use and reporting.

Supervision & Mentorship

  • Provide regular supervision, technical guidance, and support to Trainers.

  • Conduct performance check-ins and field visits to ensure high-quality delivery of training sessions.

  • Foster teamwork, motivation, and professional growth within the field team.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with schools, district education officials, and key partners.

  • Represent Backup Uganda in district-level coordination meetings and education forums.

  • Facilitate clear communication and feedback between field teams and management.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting

  • Support Trainers in collecting and documenting accurate data on project activities and outcomes.

  • Prepare and submit timely monthly progress reports to the Country Director.

  • Identify implementation challenges and propose practical, data-driven solutions.

Administrative & Financial Management

  • Oversee logistics for field activities, workshops, and training sessions.

  • Manage the Kitgum field office and ensure effective day-to-day operations.

  • Ensure accountability and compliance with Backup Uganda’s financial procedures.

  • Prepare and submit activity budgets and financial reports in a timely manner.

Qualifications, Education and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Project Management, Social Work, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in project coordination, preferably in inclusive education within the NGO sector.

  • Proven experience supervising field staff or trainers.

  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

  • At least 3 years of experience in Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning (MEAL).

  • Experience working with children with disabilities or in inclusive education is a strong advantage.
