Job Description
DRC Uganda is currently looking for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join our dynamic team as a Peacebuilding and Conflict Sensitivity Specialist.
The overall purpose of the role:
The Peacebuilding and Conflict Sensitivity Specialist will provide technical oversight and quality assurance to local partners on community-based activities implemented through sports programming, including youth engagement, awareness raising, and community dialogues in refugee settlements. The position holder will ensure that these activities are delivered in a conflict-sensitive manner, contribute meaningfully to social cohesion and peaceful coexistence, and do not generate unintended harm, He/she will also lead on conflict analysis and integration of conflict sensitivity across relevant programmes, including anticipatory action initiatives, and strengthen the capacity of the implementing partner and internal teams.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Technical oversight of peacebuilding activities
- Provide technical guidance to the implementing partner on the design and delivery of sports-based peacebuilding activities (youth engagement, community dialogues, awareness sessions).
- Ensure activities go beyond recreational approaches and are structured to contribute to social cohesion and peaceful coexistence outcomes.
- Support the partner in integrating conflict resolution, dialogue, and inclusion approaches into all activities.
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor quality, relevance and conflict sensitivity of activities.
- Identify risks and propose mitigation measures to avoid tensions, exclusion, or unintended harm.
Conflict sensitivity and anticipatory action
- Lead conflict analysis in target locations, including risk analysis linked to shocks and anticipatory action triggers
- Ensure conflict sensitivity is integrated into anticipatory action design, targeting and implementation
- Identify and monitor potential conflict risks related to anticipatory action interventions and propose mitigation measures
- Produce brief conflict sensitivity updates/analysis to inform timely decision-making for anticipatory action
Capacity strengthening
- Train and mentor partner staff and internal teams on, peacebuilding approaches, conflict sensitivity and facilitation of community dialogues.
- Support the partner to improve activity design, facilitation quality, and reporting.
- Develop simple guidance and tools to strengthen field-level implementation.
Programme quality, monitoring and learning
- Ensure quality control of activities and documentation of outcomes and lessons learned.
- Work with MEAL teams to integrate conflict sensitivity indicators and feedback mechanisms.
- Contribute to donor reporting and internal learning products.
- Support adaptation of programming based on evolving context and analysis.
Coordination and technical support
- Act as technical focal point on peacebuilding and conflict sensitivity with Protection teams, HDP colleagues and implementing partners.
- Support coordination with community structures, local authorities and partners on conflict-sensitive approaches.
- Contribute to the design of new proposals or programme adaptations integrating peacebuilding and conflict sensitivity.
