About the PULMq-TB Project (Stop TB Partnership/UNOPS)
The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH) – National TB/Leprosy Division (NTLD), is implementing the PULMq-TB Project, supported by the Stop TB Partnership/UNOPS under the Introducing New Tools Project (iNTP).
This initiative utilizes ultra-portable digital X-ray technology combined with Qure.ai’s qXR software to expand community TB screening among high-risk populations in urban, peri-urban, and underserved rural areas, including the Karamoja sub-region. Alongside TB screening, the project incorporates a nutrition supplementation program to help prevent the progression of TB in household contacts of confirmed TB patients, especially children.
To support this effort, IDI is seeking a qualified and experienced Nutritionist to lead and implement the nutrition component of the project in Moroto.
Position Summary
The Nutritionist will oversee the planning, implementation, and monitoring of the nutrition supplementation activities in line with Ministry of Health guidelines. This role includes supervision of Nutrition Assistants, coordination with local stakeholders, and providing technical guidance on food values and nutritional support for TB-affected households.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Provide technical oversight for the implementation of the nutrition component in project districts.
Review and align project nutrition data tools with existing Health Management Information Systems (HMIS).
Collaborate with stakeholders to adapt nutrition education materials into local languages.
Recommend appropriate food rations and ensure their distribution to eligible households.
Coordinate the delivery and setup of systems for distributing nutrition-dense rations.
Deliver safe, high-quality nutritional counseling and care services to TB-affected individuals.
Identify patients needing specialized nutrition care and facilitate referrals.
Ensure proper linkage of patients to therapeutic nutrition programs and services.
Lead monthly planning and review of nutrition activities across project sites.
Engage local health and community development structures to support program delivery.
Supervise Nutrition Assistants and ensure performance aligns with set expectations.
Maintain communication with the Project Coordinator regarding progress, challenges, and resource needs.
Participate in stakeholder meetings and represent the project in relevant regional forums.
Document lessons learned and best practices related to nutrition support in TB care.
Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Project Coordinator.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
A Bachelor of Science degree in one of the following fields:
Human Nutrition
Clinical Nutrition
Nutrition and Dietetics
Food Science and Nutrition
Dietetics or a related discipline
Registration with the Allied Health Professionals Council is mandatory.
Additional training in TB management is an added advantage.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Strong technical knowledge in nutrition management, especially in public health contexts.
Experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating nutrition programs.
Ability to work effectively with community health structures and local stakeholders.
Prior experience working in Karamoja or similar contexts is desirable.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency in Ngakarimojong or Swahili is an added advantage.
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
