Job Description
Reporting to the Head of Business Unit and working closely with the General Manager, the National Retail Sales Manager will lead a nationwide team to develop and implement effective retail sales strategies, manage key customer relationships, and ensure strong supplier partnerships. The role involves planning promotional activities, forecasting sales, managing stock, optimizing distribution channels, and overseeing new product development. This position also includes responsibility for market analysis, budget planning, team leadership, and ensuring service excellence throughout all retail channels.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Develop and execute national retail sales and distribution strategies
Optimize route-to-market and improve product coverage across retail channels
Plan and monitor annual sales budgets, marketing activities, and ROI
Build and maintain relationships with pharmacies, chemists, supermarkets, and sub-distributors
Ensure availability and timely delivery of products through coordination with supply chain
Conduct market research, monitor competitor activities, and identify business opportunities
Lead promotional campaigns, pricing strategies, and stock management plans
Prepare and deliver regular reports to management and suppliers
Drive customer service excellence, resolve complaints, and track Net Promoter Score (NPS)
Recruit, lead, and coach national retail sales teams; implement performance management systems
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Sales & Marketing, Pharmacy, Business Administration, or a related field
MBA is an added advantage
Experience
Minimum of 10 years of experience in sales and marketing, with at least 5 years in a senior national retail or trade sales role within the pharmaceutical, FMCG, or healthcare industry
Skills and Competencies
Excellent leadership, team-building, and people management skills
Strong strategic planning and analytical thinking
Deep knowledge of the Kenyan pharmaceutical retail landscape
Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
Expertise in market research, pricing strategy, and promotional planning
Ability to work cross-functionally and lead large, diverse teams
Strong commitment to customer satisfaction and service excellence
Proficiency in reporting, budget planning, and sales forecasting
Willingness to travel extensively across the country
