Job Description
Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Department/Programme: Bottling Plant
Section/Project: Bottling Plant
Reports To: Bottling Plant Manager
Supervises: None
Overall Purpose of the Job
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for site maintenance, covering all mechanical aspects and equipment, including blending, packaging, and facility machinery within the bottling plant.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Maintain plant and equipment in safe, reliable condition to ensure production and efficiency targets are met.
Complete maintenance tasks across all areas, adhering to maintenance plans.
Prepare timely, comprehensive, and accurate preventive maintenance reports.
Keep detailed records of all maintenance work carried out.
Support the development of maintenance plans and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for maintenance activities.
Determine equipment center lines, monitor deviations, and take action to fix any equipment operating outside standard parameters.
Apply problem-solving techniques to identify root causes of mechanical asset failures.
Implement temporary remedial measures and modifications on mechanical and electrical systems to sustain production while arranging permanent solutions, ensuring plant safety.
Identify opportunities to improve asset care and drive those initiatives forward.
Design and implement modifications to existing mechanical systems and equipment based on user requirements.
Ensure safety and compliance maintenance tasks are completed on site.
Verify that equipment safety and emergency systems are fully operational.
Deliver quality workmanship consistently.
Comply with all statutory obligations, relevant legislation, and standards.
Train and coach operators to enhance their skills and understanding.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education: University Degree or Higher National Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
Experience, Skills, and Competences
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in FMCG operations and maintenance.
Knowledge of mechanical engineering and process technology.
Understanding of bottling processes including blowmoulder, filler, capper, labeller, and packer machines, as well as packaging and utility operations.
Familiarity with mechanical equipment functions, configuration, calibration, testing, and fault finding.
Ability to interpret technical drawings, maintenance manuals, schematic diagrams, and engineering specifications.
Knowledge of mechanical design and equipment sizing.
Strong troubleshooting skills.
Proficient communication skills, both written and oral.
Thorough understanding of safe working systems and permit to work systems.
Knowledge of World Class Manufacturing and Lean Manufacturing standards.
Awareness of Quality and Food Safety systems.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
Capable of multitasking and managing various activities simultaneously.
Excellent time management skills.
Physical demands include standing, sitting, walking, manual dexterity, bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching, and lifting up to 50kg.
Work may involve exposure to moving machinery, temperature changes, humidity, dust, fumes, and gases.
Flexible approach to working hours may be required to meet production demands and deadlines. Shift work may be necessary.
Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite to support daily operations.
Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary to interact effectively with team members and management. Effective communication using speech, vision, and hearing is required.
