Job Description

Assist library users in locating and accessing information resources, answering reference questions, providing research assistance, and instructing patrons on how to effectively use library catalogs, databases, and other resources.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collection Development: Select, acquire, catalog, and organize library materials such as books, journals, electronic resources, multimedia materials, and other information resources to meet the needs and interests of library users.

  • Reference Services: Assist library users in locating and accessing information resources, answering reference questions, providing research assistance, and instructing patrons on how to effectively use library catalogs, databases, and other resources.

  • Reader Advisory Services: Recommend books, articles, and other materials to library users based on their interests, reading preferences, and information needs.

  • Programming and Outreach: Plan, develop, and implement library programs, events, and outreach activities to engage the community, promote literacy, and support lifelong learning. This may include storytime sessions, book clubs, workshops, and author talks.

  • Information Literacy Instruction: Provide instruction and guidance to library users on information literacy skills, including how to evaluate sources, conduct research, cite sources properly, and use technology effectively for academic and personal purposes.

  • Cataloging and Metadata Management: Create and maintain catalog records, metadata, and classification systems to ensure accurate and efficient access to library materials both physically and digitally.

  • Technology Management: Manage and maintain library technology infrastructure, including computers, software systems, databases, and online resources, to support information access and services for library users.

  • User Services: Assist library users with circulation services, including checking materials in and out, processing holds and interlibrary loans, and resolving account issues.
