Job Description
Job Vacancy: Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer – Geoscience Department
Reports to: Head of Department
Duty Station: King Ceasor University, Main Campus – Ggaba Road, Kampala
Job Purpose:
To develop, manage, and monitor undergraduate academic programs in the Geoscience Department. The role involves curriculum development, quality assurance, teaching, and research, in line with standards set by relevant professional bodies and the University.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality and engaging teaching to undergraduate students in Geosciences.
Develop and implement a stimulating and relevant range of learning opportunities.
Conduct and contribute to research in the area of specialization.
Publish scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals within your field.
Set academic standards and monitor performance in line with department objectives.
Mentor and support junior faculty members, including Lecturers and Assistant Lecturers.
Participate in curriculum development and periodic review of academic programs.
Promote quality assurance and enhancement in teaching and learning.
Liaise and collaborate with other universities and institutions to ensure relevance and innovation.
Perform departmental administrative duties as assigned by the Head of Department.
Contribute to community engagement and the University’s outreach programs.
Support the Head of Department and Dean in providing leadership and strategic direction.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Academic Qualifications:
A minimum of a Master’s degree in Geoscience or a closely related field.
A PhD in the relevant field is an added advantage (especially for Lecturer position).
Teaching and Academic Experience:
Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience in a recognized academic institution.
At least three (3) years of experience must be at the Lecturer level for those applying as Lecturer.
Proven ability to supervise graduate students—at least three (3) supervised to completion.
Research and Publications:
At least eight (8) recognized publications in your area of specialization.
A minimum of three (3) publications must have been published within the last three years prior to application.
Other Requirements:
Demonstrated teaching and pedagogical skills.
Strong academic and professional track record.
High level of integrity and commitment to academic excellence.
Proficient in the use of ICT for teaching and research.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
