About the Tilenga Project
The Tilenga development is one of the most ambitious oilfield projects within TotalEnergies, operating in a highly sensitive and complex environment. The project spans protected national parks, river Nile wetlands, and densely populated rural areas in Uganda.
This is a high-intensity, factory-style drilling operation with a well delivered every 4 days using three rigs in parallel. The development includes significant logistical and technical challenges related to production chemistry, including high-viscosity and waxy crudes, separation, and produced water treatment (PWT).
Work is conducted in a multicultural setting, under both Ugandan regulatory frameworks and international onshore plant standards.
Role Overview
The Junior Process Engineer will support process design, optimization, and troubleshooting during both project execution and operational phases. The role requires close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible process performance.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE)
Comply with and promote TotalEnergies' HSE Golden Rules in both operations and daily activities.
Participate in risk assessments, HSE audits, and emergency drills.
Monitor and report environmental and safety anomalies.
Contribute to minimizing flaring/venting during production upsets by proposing technical improvements.
Ensure process engineering activities align with HSE requirements and industry best practices.
Technical & Engineering Support
Assist in process design and optimisation in compliance with company rules and general specifications.
Troubleshoot and resolve process issues in collaboration with operations and engineering teams.
Contribute to the review and development of process-related documentation: PFDs, P&IDs, datasheets, and H&M balances.
Perform simulations and calculations using process software such as ProII (essential), Flaresim, Pipesim, and HYSYS (preferred).
Conduct vessel/piping sizing, heat transfer, and hydraulic calculations.
Support process safety assessments including HAZOPs, audits, and design reviews.
Contribute to the preparation and updating of operating procedures.
Support Site Modification Requests (SMRs) and Requests for Modifications (RFMs).
Document lessons learned and contribute to process discipline improvement.
Collaboration & Interfaces
Ensure seamless coordination with other technical disciplines (mechanical, instrumentation, operations, etc.).
Support interface requirements with wellpad facilities, flowlines, and pipelines.
Provide process engineering input to cross-functional and cross-entity initiatives.
Engage with Engineering, OneTech teams, and contractors to address technical queries and perform follow-ups.
Digital Integration & Innovation
Assist with the implementation of digital tools in coordination with the Digital Lead.
Apply data analytics and programming skills (preferred) for system performance monitoring and optimization.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Master’s degree in Process or Chemical Engineering.
Minimum 1 year of experience in process/production engineering or production chemistry.
Familiarity with heavy oil and waxy crude operations is highly desirable.
Background in production chemistry and water treatment processes.
Proficiency in process simulation tools:
ProII (essential)
Pipesim, Flaresim, Hysys (preferred)
Knowledge of industry codes, safety standards, and design specifications.
Strong problem-solving skills, with ability to analyze complex systems and processes.
Programming or data analysis skills are an added advantage.
