Job Description
The role involves managing and monitoring UGAFODE’s cyber security systems, participating in the design and implementation of IT security policies and controls, conducting risk and vulnerability assessments, supporting audits, training staff on security awareness, and ensuring compliance with Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act. The ICT Security Officer will also play a key role in security incident management, change control, and evaluating the IT environment to mitigate threats and align systems with industry standards.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Implement and monitor UGAFODE’s cybersecurity systems and enforce security policies and procedures.
Manage security tools such as firewalls, encryption, end-point protection, and vulnerability scanners.
Research and recommend IT security upgrades and ensure proper configuration and deployment.
Conduct cybersecurity awareness training for staff.
Support IT security and operational audits, ensuring SLAs with external providers are upheld.
Enforce incident and change management processes in line with IT policies.
Work with ICT staff to address audit, risk, and compliance findings.
Perform threat and vulnerability management, risk treatment, and incident analysis.
Ensure systems comply with legal and regulatory requirements, including the Data Protection and Privacy Act.
Evaluate new hardware, software, and third-party tools for security compliance.
Maintain a knowledge base of security advisories, trends, and best practices.
Support the Head of ICT in planning and budgeting for the IT security function.
Perform other ICT-related assignments as required.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, preferably in financial institutions, telecom, or IT consulting.
Experience in risk assessment, vulnerability management, and compliance.
Knowledge of Microsoft and UNIX systems, virtualization, and enterprise networks.
Background in related IT roles such as network administrator, IT auditor, or systems analyst.
Professional certifications such as CISSP, CEH, CCSP, CISA, CISM, MSCE, CCNA, or CCNP are an added advantage.
Strong understanding of IT security principles and frameworks (ISO27001, NIST, COBIT, PCI, ISF).
Knowledge of the Data Protection and Privacy Act of Uganda.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
