Job Description
Job Title: ICT Application Specialist

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
We are seeking a highly skilled ICT Application Specialist to oversee the management, technical support, and optimization of business-critical applications. The role involves ensuring application functionality, troubleshooting issues, monitoring performance, and maintaining compliance with security and industry standards. The ideal candidate will work closely with other IT Team members, end users and external vendors to enhance application efficiency and reliability.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Install, configure, and maintain software applications to meet business and project needs.
Ensure seamless application integration with other existing systems and IT infrastructure.
Monitor application performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement fixes or escalate to development teams when necessary.
Perform root cause analysis for recurring issues and implement preventive measures to minimize downtime.
Assist in application deployments, upgrades, and patches and version upgrades following change management processes.
Provide 1st/2nd line technical support for software applications, troubleshooting and resolving issues promptly.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (IT, DevOps, vendors) to ensure seamless application functionality.
Assist end-users in understanding and utilizing applications effectively through end-user trainings & best practices.
Continuously monitor application performance and recommend optimization strategies.
Diagnose and resolve software application issues to minimize operational disruptions.
Provide timely solutions and document resolution procedures for future reference.
Ensure systems are up to date with the latest security enhancements and features.
Maintain detailed documentation of application configurations, User guides, troubleshooting manuals, processes, workflows, and any knowledge base articles.
Generate regular reports on application performance, issue resolution, and enhancement suggestions.
Collaborate with software vendors for licensing, support, and system updates.
Ensure compliance with software agreements and facilitate timely upgrades.
Conduct rigorous testing to ensure application quality, functionality, and reliability.
Identify and address defects before application release or implementation.
Ensure applications comply with company policies, industry regulations, and security standards.
Implement security best practices to safeguard application data and integrity.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in application support, IT support, or similar roles.
Strong knowledge of enterprise applications, databases, and system integrations.
Experience with application monitoring, troubleshooting tools, and performance tuning.
Proficiency in SQL, scripting languages, and IT service management (ITSM) tools.
Familiarity with cloud-based applications, SaaS solutions, windows/Linux environment.
Understanding of security best practices, compliance frameworks, and ITIL processes.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Certifications such as ITIL, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, AWS, or Application-Specific Certifications are a plus.
Experience with automation tools and DevOps methodologies.
