Job Description
The Gender and Safeguarding Officer will ensure the organization effectively prevents, identifies, and responds to safeguarding risks, including abuse, exploitation, harassment, and neglect. The role also involves strengthening safeguarding systems, supporting participants through mentorship and job readiness initiatives, and ensuring a safe environment for all stakeholders.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
1. Policy & Compliance
- Develop, review, and update safeguarding policies in line with legal frameworks and best practices
- Ensure compliance with national safeguarding regulations and organizational standards
- Maintain accurate and confidential safeguarding records
2. Reporting & Case Management
- Serve as the main contact for safeguarding concerns
- Receive, document, and assess safeguarding cases and disclosures
- Refer cases to relevant authorities and external agencies
- Monitor cases and ensure appropriate follow-up actions
3. Training & Awareness
- Conduct safeguarding training for staff, partners, and beneficiaries
- Promote a strong safeguarding culture within the organization
- Provide continuous guidance and support on safeguarding matters
4. Risk Assessment & Prevention
- Identify safeguarding risks through regular assessments
- Develop and implement mitigation and prevention strategies
- Ensure safe recruitment practices and background checks
5. Stakeholder & Partner Engagement
- Liaise with social services, safeguarding boards, and other external partners
- Participate in safeguarding meetings and case conferences when required
