Job Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Finance Officer, located in Kampala. The Finance Officer will run the day to day finance function, keeping accurate books, ensuring timely reconciliations across rent collections and payouts, maintaining statutory compliance, and producing clear management reports to support decision making. This is a hands on role in a fast moving environment with direct visibility and accountability to the CEO.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Accounting and bookkeeping (QuickBooks Online)
- Maintain accurate accounting records in QuickBooks Online, including chart of accounts setup, correct coding, journals, and supporting schedules
- Manage month end close: accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, and reconciliations
- Maintain orderly documentation for all transactions and contracts to support reviews and audits
- Revenue, collections, and payout reconciliations
- Reconcile rent collections made through multiple payment options (mobile money, card, bank deposits) against platform records and bank statements
- Track and reconcile landlord payouts made via mobile money or bank transfer once collections are complete
- Track transaction fees and other platform charges (for example the tenant transaction fee where applicable)
- Investigate and resolve variances, failed payments, reversals, and refunds promptly
Cash management and payments
- Prepare weekly cash position updates and short term cash forecasts for the CEO
- Process vendor payments, subscriptions, and operational expenses with proper approvals and documentation
- Support pricing, collections follow up, and receivables management where applicable
- Support for credit and financing features
- Maintain tracking schedules and accounting for rent top ups and other financing features (including landlord focused credit offerings)
- Support partner and internal reporting related to these products, including collections, repayments, and portfolio performance
Statutory compliance and controls
- Ensure timely statutory filings and payments (taxes and any required payroll deductions)
- Maintain basic internal controls suitable for a growing fintech and property tech environment, including approval workflows and payment controls
Management reporting
- Prepare monthly management accounts (P and L, balance sheet, cash flow) and commentary for the CEO
- Produce simple KPI reporting that reflects the business model (collections, payouts, fees, operating costs, and cash runway) aligned to RentBeta’s rent collection and property management operations.
