Position Summary:
Reach A Hand Uganda is seeking a qualified Enrolled Midwife to provide comprehensive midwifery services during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. The role involves ensuring adherence to health protocols, maintaining hygienic practices, promoting maternal and child health (MCH), family planning, and proper nutrition.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive maternal and child health (MCH) services, including the management of complications and referrals for high-risk pregnancies.
Assist the Registered Midwife with labor and delivery, preparation of birth documentation, and postnatal assessments for mothers and newborns.
Offer counseling on pregnancy care, breastfeeding techniques, hygiene, bottle preparation, and postpartum recovery.
Engage in Primary Health Care (PHC) initiatives including health education, family planning, PMTCT, HCT services, nutrition, and childbirth preparation within the clinic and the community.
Deliver primary care services to women of reproductive age as per the Basic Package of Health Services.
Administer non-surgical family planning methods and provide guidance on surgical options.
Ensure timely immunization of infants in accordance with the national schedule.
Support clinicians in managing sexual and gender-based violence cases.
Monitor stock levels of maternity drugs and supplies and report any restocking needs.
Ensure medical equipment is clean, functional, and used according to guidelines; report any malfunctions.
Adhere to sterilization and hygiene protocols, including infection prevention and control (IPC) standards.
Maintain high ethical and professional standards in line with RAHU’s Code of Conduct.
Ensure accuracy in data collection and submit timely reports.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Certificate in Midwifery from a recognized institution.
Registered with the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council.
Valid practicing license.
Minimum of 1 year of practical midwifery experience.
Prior experience working with an international NGO is an added advantage.
Knowledge & Skills Required:
Knowledge of:
Professional midwifery practices and procedures.
Infection control and hygiene protocols.
Proper waste disposal methods (medical and non-medical).
Skills:
Strong clinical midwifery skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
Proficient in both spoken and written English.
Abilities:
Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards.
Provide respectful and compassionate care.
Accurately document patient information.
Manage stress and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
Uphold RAHU’s mission and Code of Conduct.
