Job Description
The successful candidate will facilitate the resolution of workplace conflicts and employee grievances while guiding management through disciplinary and counselling procedures. The role requires offering expert advice on disciplinary matters, conducting investigations, interpreting labour laws and policies, and ensuring that employee relations (ER) practices are legally compliant. The Employee Relations Specialist will also represent FlySafair at the CCMA, train managers on ER topics, update company policies, and monitor legal developments to guide internal HR practices effectively. Travel may be required to support national operations.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Handle employee grievances, counselling, and conflict resolution
Ensure compliance with grievance and disciplinary procedures
Provide guidance on disciplinary actions to ensure fairness and legal compliance
Investigate concerns and recommend appropriate actions
Interpret and apply internal policies on discipline and conduct
Coordinate with HR and managers to oversee disciplinary processes and hearings
Represent the company at the CCMA and other legal forums
Prepare HR and line managers for CCMA cases and dispute resolutions
Monitor and interpret changes in employment legislation and ensure compliance
Conduct training on employee relations, disciplinary procedures, and labour laws
Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Draft, review, and update employee relations policies and procedures
Promote awareness of company policies and labour legislation
Provide accurate legal interpretations and consistent application across departments
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Grade 12 or equivalent (essential)
Degree or diploma in HR Management, Industrial Relations, or a related field (essential)
Postgraduate qualification in Labour Relations (advantageous)
Minimum 5 years’ experience in employee or industrial relations (essential)
Demonstrated experience managing disciplinary cases and representing at CCMA
Willingness and ability to travel as required
