Job Description
By fulfilling these duties and requirements, Engineering Stores Assistants contribute to the efficient functioning of engineering operations by ensuring the availability and timely provision of materials and equipment needed for maintenance, repair, and production activities
Duties and Responsibilities
Inventory Management: Maintaining accurate records of stock levels, tracking inventory movements, and conducting regular stock audits to ensure adequate supply of materials and equipment.
Receiving and Inspection: Receiving incoming shipments, inspecting goods for quality and quantity, verifying against purchase orders, and documenting receipt of items.
Storage and Organization: Organizing and storing materials and equipment in designated storage areas, ensuring proper handling, labeling, and identification to facilitate easy retrieval and inventory management.
Issuance and Distribution: Issuing materials and equipment to engineering staff or production teams as per requisitions, ensuring proper documentation and recording of transactions.
Ordering and Procurement: Generating purchase requisitions for stock replenishment, coordinating with suppliers to place orders, and tracking delivery schedules to ensure timely receipt of materials.
Stock Control and Replenishment: Monitoring stock levels, identifying shortages or surplus, and initiating reorder requests or adjustments to maintain optimal inventory levels.
Data Entry and Record-Keeping: Entering data into inventory management systems, maintaining electronic or manual records of transactions, stock movements, and inventory balances.
Health and Safety Compliance: Adhering to health and safety protocols in handling and storing hazardous materials, ensuring compliance with regulations and safety standards.
Equipment Maintenance: Assisting in the maintenance and calibration of tools, equipment, and machinery stored in the engineering stores to ensure operational readiness and safety.
Collaboration: Liaising with engineering staff, procurement teams, vendors, and other stakeholders to coordinate material requirements, resolve issues, and optimize inventory management processes.

Qualifications and Competencies
Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required. Additional vocational training or certification in inventory management, logistics, or related fields may be advantageous.
Experience: Some employers may prefer candidates with previous experience in inventory management, warehouse operations, or engineering stores management, although entry-level positions may be available for candidates with relevant skills and aptitude.
Technical Knowledge: Basic understanding of engineering materials, tools, and equipment commonly used in maintenance, repair, and production activities.
Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills to manage inventory, prioritize tasks, and maintain orderly storage facilities for efficient operations.
Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in receiving, inspecting, and recording inventory transactions, as well as identifying discrepancies or errors.
Communication Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with colleagues, suppliers, and other stakeholders, as well as to accurately convey information related to inventory management.
Computer Proficiency: Proficiency in using inventory management software, spreadsheet applications, and other relevant tools for data entry, tracking inventory, and generating reports.
Physical Stamina: Ability to perform tasks that may involve lifting, carrying, and moving heavy materials or equipment, as well as standing or walking for extended periods in a warehouse or storeroom environment.
Teamwork: Willingness to collaborate with others, work as part of a team, and support colleagues in achieving common goals related to inventory management and engineering operations.
Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, workload demands, and operational requirements in a dynamic engineering environment.
