About the Organisation
National Insurance Corporation (now NIC Holdings Limited) was established in 1964 as a wholly owned Government parastatal and the leading provider of insurance and financial services in Uganda.
In 2005, NIC was privatized with the continental insurance giant, Industrial and General Insurance Plc (IGI) acquiring majority (60%) stake through its special purpose vehicle, Corporate Holdings Limited.
On 25th March 2010, NIC was listed on the Uganda Securities Exchange becoming the first (and only) Uganda registered insurance company to be listed on the USE.
In 2014, pursuant to the Insurance (Amendment) Act, NIC was restructured and re-branded into and insurance group with a holding company and two virile wholly owned insurance subsidiaries, NIC General Insurance Company Limited and NIC Life Assurance Company Limited.

Job Description
NIC General is a wholly owned subsidiary of NIC Holdings Limited. NIC General was incorporated on 3rd March, 2014 and took over the general insurance businesses of NIC in compliance with the legal
requirement for separation of insurance businesses under the Insurance (Amendment) Act.
NIC General Insurance is looking for an experienced person to take up a position of Drivers (2) positions.
Job Title: Driver
Reports to: Manager Administration
Purpose: To transport staff and deliver NICL items and ensure periodic maintenance of the motor Vehicle in line with the administrative and driver’s guidelines and the road safety laws. companies through analyzing of insurance accounts, reviewing insurance plans and managing accounts for the reinsurance firms
Duties and Responsibilities
Drive NICL vehicles in line with the driver’s guidelines, the NICL policy and the road safety laws.
Carry out daily vehicle maintenance checks and generate reports in line with the driver’s guidelines and NICL policy on vehicle use and maintenance.
Deliver NICL correspondence, property & equipment in line with the relevant NICL policies and procedures.
Keep an update record of vehicle movement logbook, insurance, license service card in line with NICL policies & procedures.
Any other duty that may be assigned to you.

Qualifications and Competencies
Advanced level certificate.
Valid driving permit, Class B
Valid driving permit, Class DM is an added advantage.
Job skills and abilities:
Driving Skills: Proficiency in operating the vehicle safely and efficiently, including knowledge of traffic laws, road signs, and defensive driving techniques.
Vehicle Maintenance: Basic understanding of vehicle maintenance and ability to perform routine checks (e.g., tire pressure, oil level) to ensure the vehicle is in good working condition.
Navigation: Strong navigational skills to efficiently plan routes and adapt to changes in traffic or road conditions using maps, GPS systems, or navigation apps.
Time Management: Ability to manage time effectively to ensure timely pickups and deliveries, adhering to schedules and deadlines.
Customer Service: Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with passengers or clients courteously and professionally, ensuring a positive experience.
Problem-Solving: Quick decision-making skills to address unexpected situations on the road, such as accidents, detours, or vehicle breakdowns.
Attention to Detail: Diligence in following instructions, maintaining accurate records (e.g., mileage logs, delivery receipts), and ensuring the safety of passengers, cargo, or deliveries.
Communication: Clear communication skills to convey information effectively with coworkers, or passengers, including reporting incidents or changes in plans promptly.
Adaptability: Flexibility to work in various weather conditions and adapt to different driving environments, such as urban areas, highways, or rural roads.
Safety Consciousness: Commitment to safety protocols and practices, including wearing seat belts, obeying speed limits, and avoiding distractions like texting while driving.
Mechanical Aptitude: Basic understanding of vehicle mechanics to troubleshoot minor issues and perform simple repairs or maintenance tasks in emergencies.
Professionalism: Maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor while representing the company or employer, adhering to company policies and regulations.
Calm Under Pressure: Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations, such as heavy traffic, irate customers, or challenging driving conditions.
License and Certification: Possession of a valid driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated and any additional certifications required by regulatory authorities or employers.
