Job Description
The driver/mechanics will be tasked to drive ChildFund International vehicles and apply technical expertise in maintenance of all ChildFund Moyo/Obongi office vehicles in accordance with ChildFund fleet policy and procedures to enhance mobility of staff for effectiveness and efficiency.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
- Remain alert and responsive to any child safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Child Safeguarding Policy.
- Ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient management of the Country Office fleet and related assets.
- Supervise vehicle documentation, oversee fuel management, spare-parts systems, and technical standards in line with ChildFund procedures.
- Provide technical guidance on outsourced transport and mechanical services when required.
- Drive ChildFund vehicles safely and responsibly while observing traffic laws, road safety regulations, and prevailing weather and road conditions.
- Maintain punctuality, professionalism, and courtesy when dealing with staff, partners, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure that both the driver and all passengers wear seatbelts before the vehicle is put into motion.
- Use ChildFund vehicles strictly for authorized purposes and approved destinations.
- Transport ChildFund Country Office staff to project locations and other approved destinations in a timely and safe manner.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections before departure to ensure the vehicles are in safe working condition and free from mechanical faults.
- Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks by recording official trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, servicing schedules, oil changes, and other relevant information.
- Take responsibility for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, including checking oil, water levels, battery condition, brakes, tyres, and general vehicle performance.
- Ensure that the vehicle has valid road licenses, insurance stickers, and is serviced in accordance with scheduled maintenance requirements.
- Carry out basic vehicle maintenance tasks such as changing tyres, checking and topping up fluids, greasing, replacing wipers, checking lights, and maintaining battery condition.
- Identify and promptly report major mechanical faults or defects to the supervisor and arrange for necessary repairs or servicing.
- Coordinate vehicle repairs and maintenance with approved garages and supervise cleaning and servicing at the office and repair facilities.
- Ensure that ChildFund policies and procedures are followed in the event of an accident and report any incidents immediately to the supervisor.
- Always ensure the security of vehicle keys to prevent theft or unauthorized duplication.
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections and promptly report any issues requiring attention.
- Observe speed limits and ensure compliance with all traffic regulations and ChildFund operational policies.
- Assist the Administration Department by obtaining information from suppliers related to fleet management and maintenance.
- Provide administrative support when required, including filing, photocopying, scanning, binding documents, and other office support tasks.
- Assist with loading and offloading goods, equipment, or luggage from the vehicle when necessary.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor from time to time.
