Job Description
Reporting to the Data Engineering Manager, the Database Developer will work within the Internal Markets Integration Team to support Cigna's ETL integration environment and data ecosystem. The role involves maintaining and monitoring ETL jobs, troubleshooting SQL Server issues, contributing to T-SQL development, assisting with documentation and data mapping, and participating in software releases and data batch monitoring. The developer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, contribute to system design, provide technical insights, and support business and IT stakeholders in identifying and implementing efficient data solutions. The position provides opportunities for continuous learning, technical growth, and contribution to innovative data initiatives within a global enterprise.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Monitor, maintain, and support ETL processes and data workflows
Troubleshoot SQL Server-related issues
Contribute to T-SQL code development and updates
Assist in documenting requirements, system changes, and technical specifications
Support data mapping and documentation tasks
Participate in scheduled releases and monitor data processing batches
Research and recommend improvements to processes and systems
Work closely with cross-functional teams across global technology environments
Provide technical consultation and support across multiple development platforms
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Academic & Experience Requirements
Minimum 2+ years’ experience with SQL Server or similar database environments
Strong understanding of SQL commands (SELECT, JOIN, WHERE, etc.)
Understanding of ETL concepts and willingness to learn ETL toolsets
Technical Skills
Knowledge of database development and data integration processes
Basic familiarity with programming languages (e.g., C#, VB.NET, Python) — an advantage
Exposure to Agile development methodology — preferred
Experience with source control tools (e.g., Git) — preferred
Interest in reporting tools (e.g., SSRS) — an added advantage
Core Competencies
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Good communication and documentation skills
Ability to learn quickly and work in a team environment
Strong initiative, motivation, and adaptability
Positive attitude and high level of professionalism
