Job Description
The Credit Officer will be responsible for reviewing loan applications, conducting credit appraisals, assessing client creditworthiness, and recommending loans for approval. The role also includes monitoring loan repayments, maintaining accurate loan records, executing recovery strategies for delinquent accounts, and ensuring full adherence to credit policies and guidelines. The officer will provide financial advisory support to members, manage loan portfolios, and contribute to product development based on membership needs. The ideal candidate will handle member inquiries, prepare credit reports, and support initiatives that promote responsible lending and financial inclusion.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Review and appraise loan applications
Evaluate and verify member creditworthiness
Process, recommend, and support loan approvals and disbursement
Monitor loan repayments and follow up on overdue loans
Conduct loan recovery and liaise with guarantors and defaulters
Maintain accurate and updated member and loan files
Handle member inquiries and provide guidance on loan services
Prepare loan portfolio and credit performance reports
Ensure compliance with lending policy and internal controls
Recommend new loan products or improvements
Conduct field visits and member sensitization on credit procedures
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Diploma in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Microfinance, or related field
Strong analytical and customer service skills
Ability to work with community groups and diverse clients
Knowledge of credit processes, lending principles, and recovery procedures is an added advantage
High integrity, attention to detail, and good communication skills
