Job Description
Job Title: Community Health Worker-Disease Prevention (Fresher NGO Jobs)
Organisation: African Network for the Care of Children Affected by HIV/AIDS (ANECCA)
Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
Conduct health awareness campaigns on hygiene, sanitation, vaccination, and healthy lifestyle practices among individuals, families, and communities to promote disease prevention and health promotion best practises during community health events, campaigns, workshops etc.
Design and distribute culturally appropriate health education materials to individuals, families and communities during different engagement foras.
Conduct community outreaches in collaboration with health workers& other community key stakeholders to identify at risk populations and provide tailor made interventions.
Participate in vaccination, immunisation campaigns and provide basic services such as malaria testing, distribution of mosquito nets, and water purification.
Facilitate the process of early detection of identify potential disease outbreaks or unusual health patterns and referral of communicable and non-communicable diseases in line with public health best practises.
Implement prevention measure and report on progress of ongoing activities on health-related at the community level on a regular basis.
Provide support counselling and care on nutrition, reproductive health, and mental well-being, link individuals living with chronic illnesses to health services and follow up on adherence to prescribed treatment and prevention measures.
Implement capacity building initiatives to community members and volunteers on disease prevention practices and community ownership and involvement in health initiatives.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (certification in community health, public health, or related field is preferred).
Prior experience in community health work or similar roles with basic knowledge of common health issues and preventive strategies is an advantage.
Experience working with diverse populations in rural or low-resource settings is desirable.
Cultural sensitivity and respect for diversity, with strong interpersonal, communication skills and ability to build trust and rapport with community members.
Empathy and active listening, Problem-solving and initiative in challenging situations.
Collaboration and teamwork with healthcare professionals and community leaders.
Ability to conduct related works in community settings, including homes, schools, and public areas.
Regular travel within assigned communities or regions with flexibility to work beyond the normal working hours based on community needs.
Renumeration: Based on qualifications, experience, and organizational standards.
