Job Description
The Collections Manager will be responsible for managing the collections team to achieve KPIs, reduce overdue debt, and improve cash receipts. Key duties include ensuring efficient collections processes, implementing strategic initiatives, controlling departmental costs, leading staff engagement, and driving continuous improvements. The role also involves recruitment, training, and performance management of the team, as well as overseeing legal proceedings for delinquent debts. The Collections Manager will work closely with other departments to ensure alignment, share best practices, and ensure process automation is in place to reduce costs.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Develop and manage collections strategies to reduce overdue debt and improve cash receipts.
Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures in the collections process.
Lead, motivate, and manage collections teams, ensuring high levels of staff engagement.
Monitor and control departmental operating costs and headcount within budget.
Implement process automation to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.
Oversee recruitment, selection, training, and performance reviews of collections staff.
Manage legal actions against delinquent debtors and ensure associated costs are minimized.
Coordinate with external debt collectors, ensuring adherence to company standards and ethical guidelines.
Conduct regular performance reviews, absenteeism management, and action plans for team improvement.
Prepare and present performance data to senior management and implement strategies for continuous improvement.
Oversee the collections strategy manual and update quarterly or as business requires.
Ensure timely and accurate completion of forecasts and work schedules.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
Experience:
6–8 years of experience as a Collections Manager.
Experience with accounting software.
Strong leadership and managerial skills.
Excellent communication and analytical skills.
Proven track record of managing teams and achieving performance targets.
Ability to work independently and accurately under pressure.
Competencies:
Strong time management and organizational skills.
Ability to lead and engage teams effectively.
Ability to work to strict deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
High level of attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
