Kabarole District is Located in Western Uganda at a road Distance of 300 km from Kampala the capital city. It has an estimated population of 318,216 (Census 2014) and a population growth rate of 2.3 per annum. The District lies at an altitude of 1300-3800 meters above sea level. It borders with Bunyangabu in the south, Kamwenge in South East, Kyenjojo in the East, Bundibugyo and Ntoroko in the Northwest and Kibaale in the North east.

The District has good climate with temperatures ranging from 20°C to 30°C and rainfall ranging from 1,200mm – 1,500 mm per annum. The District has cool temperatures averaging between 22°-25°C and has a bimodal rainfall, ranging from 1200mm – 1500mm per annum. The district has three distinct agro-ecological zones i.e. North-eastern zone, the Middle zone and the Highland (Mountain) zone. The three different zones offer different opportunities for commercial agriculture ranging from tea, dairy cattle, bananas, coffee, Apiary, and Horticulture. In addition the district is covered by rolling hills and mountains with acidic soils which have favoured tea growing. Furthermore the District is covered with good soils conducive for agriculture where geological divisions show that 90% of the district is covered with black loam (volcanic) soil while a few places especially in Busoro and parts of Hakibaale sub counties have red sandy clay loams occasionally underlain by soft laterites.

Applications are invited from suitable qualified Ugandans to fill vacant post that exist in Kabarole District Local Government on Replacement Basis. Applications should be submitted in triplicate on Public Service Commission Form 3 (Revised 2008) to the Secretary District Service Commission, Kabarole P.O. Box 38, Fort Portal not later than 26th April 2024 at 5pm which is a closing date
Application Forms can be obtained from Public Service Commission Offices situated on 2nd Floor, Farmers House, Kampala and District Service Commission Office all over the County.

Applications should bear the title of the post clearly applied for and its reference number specified against the vacancy. Certified copies of academic certificates, transcripts, National Identify Card and a recent Passport photograph must be attached on all the three (3) Forms.
Serving Officers MUST route their applications through their Accounting Officers/Responsible Officers who should be informed of the closing date to avoid delays.

  • Feeding and Watering: Assist with feeding and watering animals according to prescribed diets and schedules, ensuring that they receive adequate nutrition and hydration.

  • Cleaning and Sanitizing: Clean and sanitize animal housing areas, including barns, pens, coops, or cages, to maintain cleanliness and prevent the spread of disease. This may involve mucking out stalls, removing bedding, and disinfecting surfaces.

  • Health Monitoring: Monitor animals for signs of illness, injury, or distress, and report any concerns to supervisors or veterinary staff. Assist with administering medications, vaccinations, or treatments as directed.

  • Handling and Restraint: Safely handle and restrain animals for routine procedures, such as grooming, hoof trimming, shearing, or veterinary examinations. Use appropriate techniques to minimize stress and ensure the safety of both animals and workers.

  • Breeding and Reproduction: Assist with breeding and reproduction activities, such as heat detection, artificial insemination, pregnancy diagnosis, and birthing assistance. Monitor pregnant animals and provide appropriate care during the birthing process.

  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of animal care activities, including feeding, health monitoring, medications administered, breeding records, and other relevant information. This may involve using computerized record-keeping systems or paper-based logs.

  • Equipment Maintenance: Clean and maintain equipment used in animal husbandry, such as feeding troughs, waterers, grooming tools, and milking machines, to ensure proper function and hygiene.

  • Environmental Management: Monitor and maintain environmental conditions in animal housing areas, including temperature, ventilation, and bedding materials, to provide a comfortable and safe environment for animals.

  • Assistance with Special Projects: Assist with special projects or tasks as assigned by supervisors, such as construction or repair projects, pasture management, or seasonal activities related to crop harvesting or animal grazing.

  • Customer Service: Provide assistance and information to visitors, customers, or clients who may have questions about animal care practices, products, or services offered by the facility. Offer tours or educational programs to promote public awareness of animal agriculture and husbandry practices.

  • Physical Fitness: Good physical health and stamina are important for performing physical tasks related to animal care, such as lifting and carrying feed bags, cleaning animal housing areas, and restraining animals for medical procedures.

  • Communication Skills: Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary for interacting with colleagues, supervisors, and potentially with customers or clients. Assistant animal husbandry workers should be able to follow instructions, ask questions, and convey information clearly.

  • Attention to Detail: Attention to detail is important for observing animals' behavior, monitoring their health, and identifying any signs of illness or injury. Assistant animal husbandry workers should be diligent in performing tasks accurately and recognizing deviations from normal conditions.

  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, assisting other workers with animal care tasks, sharing responsibilities, and coordinating efforts to ensure efficient operations.

  • Compassion and Patience: Compassion for animals and patience in handling and working with them are essential qualities for assistant animal husbandry workers. They should treat animals with care, respect, and kindness.

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot issues related to animal health, behavior, or housing conditions, and take appropriate action to address problems or seek assistance from supervisors or veterinarians as needed.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards governing animal care and welfare, as well as biosecurity protocols to prevent disease transmission and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
