Job Description
The Accountant will play a critical role in the financial management of StartHub’s operations, including recording transactions, reconciling accounts, preparing reports, ensuring tax compliance, and supporting external audits. The role also involves coordination of financial activities across departments and upcountry hubs, while supporting digital and physical financial systems, asset tracking, payroll contributions, supplier payments, and insurance claims. The ideal candidate must exhibit integrity, possess strong analytical skills, and be capable of handling multiple complex tasks within a fast-paced environment.

How to Apply
Record all financial transactions related to assets, liabilities, purchases, and sales
Reconcile accounts: receivables, payables, cash, bank, and mobile money
Track, categorize, and assign values to assets; calculate depreciation
Review departmental budgets, disburse funds, and assess accountability documents
Monitor daily sales receipts, credit activity, and petty cash managed by bookkeeper
Maintain physical and digital financial record filing systems
Manage all company bank accounts, transfers, cheque books, and reconciliations
Handle tax compliance, including tax returns, payments, audits, and clearance certificates
Support external audits and ensure compliance with internal controls
Prepare financial statements: balance sheet, income statement, cash flow report
Manage reporting for funders and projects, including expenditure tracking
Process staff retirement fund contributions and statutory filings
Coordinate company registration, license renewals, and director work permits
Oversee staff attendance systems and coordinate with software providers
Manage fuel card usage, GPS tracking of company vehicles and motorcycles
Reconcile mobile money accounts and restrict unauthorized access
Coordinate staff medical insurance and handle claims
Administer SafeBoda wallet for staff transport and regulate its usage
Process supplier bills, contracts, and payment disbursements
Supervise the bookkeeper on cash handling, receipts, and documentation
Monitor expenses in upcountry hubs: Kasese, Namanve, and Kangulumira
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
CPA Certification is an added advantage
Experience and Skills:
Proven experience in accounting or financial management
Proficient in accounting software and financial analysis tools
Strong understanding of accounting principles and tax regulations
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Analytical thinker with problem-solving capabilities
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
High levels of integrity and professional ethics
