Job Description
The Accountant will maintain accurate financial records and ensure adherence to FAWE Uganda’s financial policies and procedures. The role includes preparing vouchers, verifying payment requisitions, reconciling accounts, uploading payments, filing financial documents, and generating timely financial reports. This position requires experience with accounting software and the ability to work under minimal supervision in a high-paced environment.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Prepare payment vouchers in line with approved budgets.
Upload payments on online banking and mobile money platforms.
Attach and safeguard relevant accountabilities and documentation for all payments.
Ensure all requisitions are sufficiently supported.
Maintain proper filing of financial documents.
Accurately post financial data in the accounting system.
Conduct monthly bank and cash reconciliations.
Prepare and submit financial reports to management and donors.
Ensure compliance with IFRS, GAAP, and internal financial policies.
Carry out any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Minimum Academic Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Commerce, or a related field.
CPA or ACCA Level 2 is essential.
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in finance or accounting.
Preferred: 7 years of experience in a busy financial environment, especially in an NGO setting.
Experience with accounting software and management information systems is required.
Competencies and Skills:
Strong analytical and strategic thinking.
Excellent knowledge of accounting principles and financial regulations.
Ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Computer literacy in MS Office and financial tools like QuickBooks.
Excellent time management and problem-solving abilities.
High level of integrity, credibility, and alignment with FAWE Uganda’s mission.
Ability to explain financial data to non-finance audiences.
Knowledge of nonprofit financial management best practices.
