Job Description
Job Title: Accountant (Tax and Revenue)
Organisation: Kiira Motors Corporation (KMC)
Duty Station: Kiira Vehicle Plant, Uganda
Reports to: Senior Accountant
The Accountant (Tax and Revenue) is responsible for managing the organization’s tax obligations, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, and optimizing tax efficiency. The role also involves tracking and reporting revenue streams, supporting financial planning, and ensuring adherence to tax regulations.
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Tax Compliance and Reporting: Prepare and file accurate and timely tax returns, including VAT, PAYE, LST, income tax, and withholding tax. Ensure compliance with all tax laws and regulations, keeping the company updated on any changes in tax legislation. Prepare and submit statutory tax reports and manage audits conducted by tax authorities.
Revenue Management: Monitor, record, and reconcile all revenue streams to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records. Analyze revenue trends and provide periodic reports for management to support decision-making. Identify discrepancies in revenue collections and resolve them in collaboration with other departments.
Tax Planning and Optimization: Develop and implement tax strategies to minimize tax liabilities while ensuring compliance. Advise management on the tax implications of business decisions, including projects, investments, and operational changes. Identify opportunities for tax savings and recommend strategies for optimizing tax positions.
Reconciliation and Analysis: Perform monthly reconciliation of tax accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner. Analyze revenue accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. Prepare tax provisions and reconcile balances for financial reporting purposes.
Liaison with Tax Authorities: Serve as the main point of contact with tax authorities for all tax-related inquiries and audits. Respond to tax queries, resolve disputes, and represent the company in discussions with relevant regulatory bodies. Coordinate timely payment of all tax obligations to avoid penalties and interest.
Training and Advisory: Provide training and updates to employees on tax matters, ensuring adherence to internal tax compliance processes. Advise departments on tax matters related to procurements, contracts, and projects.
Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual tax and revenue reports for management review. Track KPIs related to tax compliance, revenue collection, and tax optimization.
Additional Responsibilities: Perform any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education Background
Bachelor’s Degree (Honors) in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized institution
At least Level II of either CPA, ACCA, or CIMA
Experience
Minimum of one (1) year of relevant working experience in tax accounting, revenue management, or financial reporting in a reputable organization.
Skills
Strong knowledge of local and international tax laws and regulations
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for tax computations and revenue analysis
Strong communication and report-writing skills
Preferred Skills
Experience in preparing tax returns, reconciliations, and statutory filings
Ability to interpret complex tax legislation and advise on tax matters
Experience in working with tax authorities and managing audits
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines
