Job Description
Prepare, examine, and analyze financial statements per IFRS/GAAP; manage AP/AR, invoicing, and cash application; maintain accurate transaction records; reconcile bank accounts and resolve discrepancies; produce monthly/quarterly/annual reports; assist monthly budgeting (by the 24th) and monitor spend; run payroll and statutory remittances (PAYE, VAT, NHIF, NSSF—or U.S. equivalents as applicable); ensure timely tax filings and compliance; support audits and implement recommendations; operate within internal control workflows (reconciliations, approvals, compliance). Daily: monitor employee activity in Teramind, provide light IT troubleshooting/support, review VA weekly Google-Form reports and follow up on gaps, and provide management with financial insights. Role requires regular overlap with U.S. hours (some evenings/early mornings).
Duties, Roles and Responsibilities
Prepare/analyze financial statements; maintain accurate ledgers and records.
Manage AP/AR cycles, invoicing, and payments; perform bank reconciliations.
Produce monthly/quarterly/annual management reports.
Assist with budgeting (due by the 24th) and variance monitoring.
Run payroll and file statutory taxes (Kenya) and coordinate U.S. equivalents where applicable.
Ensure compliance with tax laws, internal controls, and audit recommendations.
Support audits; handle compliance, approvals, and reconciliations.
Monitor staff activity via Teramind; ensure accurate time records.
Provide light IT support and software navigation when needed.
Review weekly VA reports (Google Forms); follow up on incomplete entries.
Provide actionable financial insights to management.
Qualifications, Education and Competencies
Education & Certification
Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance (or related).
CPA/ACCA/ACA (mandatory).
Experience & Technical
3+ years’ accounting experience.
Strong knowledge of IFRS/GAAP, taxation, and compliance.
Proficient in QuickBooks/Xero/SAP and advanced Excel.
IT-savvy; basic troubleshooting; familiarity with Wingubox (or similar DMS).
Excellent English; able to collaborate with U.S. teams.
Fluency in at least three languages (incl. English).
Additional Requirements
Kenya Data Protection Act (2019); awareness of U.S. privacy/security (e.g., SOC, HIPAA).
Cross-border accounting: FX rules, remittances, Kenya vs. U.S. tax considerations.
Proven KRA iTax filings (VAT, PAYE, CIT).
Ethics/governance per ICPAK standards.
Equipment
Personal laptop, phone, quality headphones; reliable internet (≥100 Mbps)—willing to upgrade if needed.
